Exclusive to HeadRoom, the Cardas Fat Pipe replacement cord for AKG headphones improves your audiophile listening or your money back. Quick-detach, owner-replaceable design fits the unique AKG K702 and AKG Q701 'mini-XLR' cord receptacle. Excellent sound quality upgrade clarifies and maximizes the dynamic acoustic properties, open timbral characteristics, and accurate sonic performance of your beloved AKG cans. The Cardas 'Fat-Pipe' cord geometry is a four-conductor design utilizing a braided shield cable featuring Cardas' own Constant-Q Golden Ratio configuration. It employs oxygen-free pure copper Litz wire with pure teflon dialectrics. Also, since standard single-ended headphone outputs utilize a shared ground at the plug, the beefy Cardas 1/4" plug connector is engineered to minimize any potential signal degradation. We think it offers superior sound versus many of the more expensive "boutique" headphone replacement cords seen elsewhere.

10ft total cable length with unique black color scheme and sweet 'Fat Pipe' logo displayed on our own HeadRoom / Cardas AKG headphone replacement cord with 1/4" stereo plug termination. Our wonderful Cardas 'no-worries' limited lifetime warranty is free with your groovy HeadRoom 'authorized dealer' purchase receipt.

Outstanding cable
Posted by Welly Wu from West Orange, NJ on 2013-03-02

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Everything sounds much improved
Cons: Expensive

I have all Cardas Clear and Golden Reference cabling in my home audio system. The Cardas Fat Pipe for my AKG K 702 headphones makes the sound just right to my ears. It's extremely smooth with high resolution and great detail retrieval along with even tonal balance and powerful dynamics. These cables are a must have to wring out the maximum sound performance of your compatible AKG headphones. I could not live without this Cardas Fat Pipe cable now that I own it. Highly recommended.

Excellent upgrade
Posted by twm from NC on 2011-06-12

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Improved sound quality, good value
Cons: Excess heat shrink tubing on mini-xlr affects comfort

All in all, an excellent upgrade that yielded audible improvements in sound quality right out of the box. This cable is much, much better than the stock AKG cable and is improving with use. There are certainly more expensive upgrade cables for the K702, but I am so happy with the Fat Pipe, I could not justify the additional cost.

The one quibble I have with the cable is the length of the heat shrink tubing used on the mini-xlr connector. The tubing stiffens the cable enough that it rubs against my shoulder which is annoying. Shortening the tubing by an inch or so would fix the problem.

Sonically almost brillant
Posted by Alex699 from Sydney, AUSTRALIA on 2011-05-07

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Massive improvement in frequency range
Cons: heavy

This is defiently a mst have item for the serious listener. Everything just sounds better as the 100% OFC allows for far better frequency response both in the highs and lows, this also allows the sounds at the highs and lows to be slightly rounded out to not be quiet so harsh on the ears.

On the down side allow for at least 40 hours + of break-in time, allowing 10-15 minutes every time for the cable to warm up. And another recomended 10-20 minutes of rest for the cable before use. What this means is: because the copper wiring inside is under no tension, unlike almost every other brand on the market. But because of the 'no tension' issuse you get what is called the "Q" mark meaning that the previously unachievable highs and lows now are.

Also this cable being a 'fat pipe' means it's roughly 2.5 times as thick as the standard one that is given with the cans. This also means the cable feels heavy with slight movements, and can also feel a little pull just by standing up with the cans on. But this is in itself a rather small issue that I got used to with in the first 10 minutes of use.

A highly recommended upgrade cable, by one of the world's best cable manufactures.
