Applications:
After a slew of requests from our more peripatetic audiophile customers, HeadRoom now offers an excellent Astrodyne 'auto-switching' power supply that provides clean, robust current for the HeadRoom Desktop Amp, Ultra Desktop Amp, Balanced Ultra Desktop Amp [The BUDA], Ultra Desktop DAC [The UDAC], and our AC-power (non-portable) HeadRoom Micro products -- without having to necessarily shell out for our top-shelf HeadRoom Desktop Power Supply [DPS]. The Astrodyne will work anywhere on the planet you can find an outlet so no need to have several power supplies in different voltages for each country of destination. However, please keep in mind the high-current, high-performance HeadRoom DPS remains highly recommended for maximum audio performance with any of our superb top-level HeadRoom "Ultra" headphone amps and DACs.
The Astrodyne shows nice performance gains over the linear regulated AC 'brick' always included with HeadRoom Micro & HeadRoom Desktop models. The Astrodyne measures exceedingly low current ripple in our lab bench tests and has a very precise quick-response voltage regulator tracking circuit that is significantly superior to the one in the brick power supply. The Astrodyne input voltage is 'auto-selecting' and will operate with any worldwide voltage by simply using a standard IEC power cable suitable for that country's plug type.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Astrodyne international power supply does NOT include an IEC cord for connection to your household AC socket; IEC cords are easy to find at any local audio retailer, electronics supply store, computer shop, or big-box store.
(FYi~ IEC power cables are the 3-prong cord typically used for powering most electronic products. IECs are equipped with various 'electronics-side' connections depending on the product, but the wall-plug side has appropriate AC/plug terminations correct for the country in which you're plugging in your wonderful audio oasis.)

Pros: Improved sound
Cons: Not exactly cheap
When using it with the HD-650 the differences are barely audible. When using it with my DJ100 and Q701 the differences are very audible. Not a night and day difference. It made me like the Q701 even more, which was kind of a surprise.
On my Q701 the soundstage is a little more airy and there is better instrument separation. A little more detail it seems like too. It just sounds more spacious, but I don't know what has caused this difference. Sounds a bit clearer too.
The sound with my Q701 also seems smoother, but that's probably all in my head. Yet bad recordings seem noticeably worse at times. What does this say? Your guess is as good as mine!
For best results I suggest not using a MOV based surge protector with the Headroom Micro Amp. I have one that's cheap and uses TVS-diodes.

Pros: Improved Detail
Cons: Expensive
I am very pleased to say that it made an immediate improvement to the detail of the sound, no A/B testing required. Strings really vibrate and percussion has a much cleaner punch. I notice that sounds don't get lost as easily (less muddy?), if that makes any sense. Really nice.
At $99 each, this wasn't an easy purchase. I am very happy with the results; I can't get this goofy smile off my face.

Pros: Makes a surprising difference
Cons: Isn't included with the micro amp.
I highly recommend this product. The micro amp shouldn't be purchased without this to compliment it. Yeah, you can hear the difference.
