Sennheiser/HR Balanced Stock HD650 Cable
As part of our continuing HeadRoom mission to make high-end balanced headphone sound widely available, we are now offering a balanced stock recable for the Sennheiser HD-650 (will also fit the discontinued HD580/HD600 models). Priced at only $99 bucks, this HeadRoom-designed and manufactured XLR-to-1/4" cable conversion system provides superb balanced-drive sound quality at a third of the cost of other balanced cabling offerings with arguably equal audio results depending entirely on your personal listening tastes, of course. Please note that the cable will not work with any headphone amplifier or pre-amp outputs that have 'male'-type XLR plugs.
HeadRoom employs high-end Neutrik connectors for the stereo left/right terminations on our Balanced Stock Sennheiser HD650 cable.
The nice bonus is the balanced to unbalanced adaptor will allow our customers to easily use their Sennheiser headphones with virtually any headphone amp whether its a balanced XLR-output unit or a single-ended 1/4" configuration. Just another way for HeadRoom to get it right between your ears.

Pros: Does what it claims to do
Cons: You'll get upgrade fever...
At $99 I was happy to take the chance (although international shipping and import duty to Scotland unfortunately doubles that cost ... not Headroom's fault)
Anyway, it was money well spent. A quick fix on the DAC1's jumper settings to disable the attentuation... attached a pair of XLR M/F adapters to fix the gender mis-match ... and then plugged in the now balanced cable HD650's.
The difference was immediately perceptible even without any cable burn-in. The soundstage has opened up. Less clutter and better detail and separation. The sometimes docile HD650's have responded and are fullfilling their potential.
So I'm really very happy. The experiment was a success. Its worth doing if your equipment allows it. I'm converted ! And so I'm probably now on the "balanced listening" upgrade path ... theres no way back now LOL !
