Sennheiser PMX 100
The Sennheiser open-backed PMX-100 offers some pretty decent sonics for such a little portable headphone. The behind-the-neck, street-style plastic/metal headband looks works well and secures to the head using small plastic earclips that hug the top of the earlobes. It's an OK design for listeners with smaller heads, but big-noggin types may find the non-adjustable fit to be bit tight and uncomfortable. However, if keeping your hair looking lovely & unmussed is fashionista-critical, then the PMX-100 neckband may be just the answer! Overall, the PMX sound quality is fairly close to that of the Sennheiser PX-100 model with a clean bass response and good audio detail clarity in the mids/highs -- but the PMX rates perhaps one notch lower sonically versus its better-fitting, more size-adjustable sister model. However, considering that the ranks of acceptable "behind-the-neck" neckband/street-style headphone designs remain small in number, the Sennheiser PMX series offers good-sounding alternatives to some of the Koss and Grado neckband/street-style models. The PMX-100 is a choice headphone for active listeners on a budget and on the move.
Designed for compatibility with most all portable music players, iPods, laptops/PCs, and Mp3s, the PMX-100's earpieces have a slickster black & grey spider web / art deco design motif that is visually striking and unique. The vented open-earcup design allows the listener to hear what's going on around them, a big plus when jamming large on busy city streets. The removable PMX earpads are also easily washable and replaceable when they wear out. The PMX-100's low 32-ohm impedance and 114dB sensitivity rating should provide more than enough volume output from any audio source. The four-foot headphone cable is terminated to a 1/8" (3.5mm) mini-plug and the standard Sennheiser 2-year product warranty remains in effect.
