AKG K 240 S
The original and venerable 240M served for many years as the reference headphone in professional studios across America. Hoping to catch on with the listener at home as well as in the recording environment, AKG introduced the 240 Studio. Those looking for some tight bottom-end punch will like these 240S headphones a lot. The lower range is pushed forward with the midrange a little behind that and the highs slightly recessed, which is a slightly different tonal signature for most AKG cans. They are efficient enough at 55 ohm impedance rating and will get moderate listening levels with most portable players. Keep in mind any quality dedicated headphone amp stage will fully maximize the audio performance and musical detail presentation of the K240. Although this model shares the same numerical appellation as the AKG 240M and AKG 240DF, the 240S are significantly less expensive and are not quite built to the same specifications and resolution as those 'true' reference-application headphones.
The 240S has a single-sided straight cable that exits from the left earcup. With their semi-open design, you get very little isolation and sound does leak out. Their self-adjusting headband, lightweight design and circumaural vinyl ear pieces make them very comfortable. A 10-foot cable terminates to an 1/8" mini-plug. A full-size 1/4" adaptor is included in the package.
