Grado RS 2
If you're looking for the Grado RS1 sound in a slightly less expensive package, then the RS2 are for you. They show such a close striking resemblance to the RS1 in look and sound, they could almost be called a younger sibling headphone. The RS2 deliver an intense, immersive music listening experience that is impactful, immediate and liquid-sounding -- although they can be just a little resonant and a hint uncontrolled on the highs, particularly with very complex music. The more expensive RS1 model offers a hair better transparency on the upper highs and more precise detail resolution in the mid-ranges. The RS2 are moderately comfortable but can definitely be made more so by gently bending the headband to better fit the top of the head. They will work very well directly out of a portable player/iPod, but the RS2 will more easily reach their full musical potential when used with a dedicated headphone amp or with a nice powerful home stereo system that will fully maximize the dynamic range, soundstage imaging, and musical detail resolution of this headphone.
The RS2 are extremely well-constructed at Grado Labs' Brooklyn USA facility, with the drivers perfectly matched to .05db and voice coils made of Grado's ultra-high purity, long crystal, oxygen-free copper. The headphone connecting cord is straight, attaches to both earpieces in a Y' design, and is also made of this high-end copper braiding. The RS2's earpieces are hand-tooled with real mahogany wood for a uniquely sophisticated look that could add a slightly burnished "woody" tone to the sonic signature of the RS2. They maintain the standard Grado flexible leather-covered headband and old-school metal height adjusters that connect the earpieces to the headband which allow for up-and-down height adjustment plus full 360 degree rotation of the earcups. This feature is ideal when laying the headphones down flat for storage or traveling. The RS2 cable comes terminated to a full-size 1/4"-inch plug —- if you need to plug into a smaller mini-jack on your source, you'll need the Grado 1/4"-to-1/8" mini-plug adapter which you can find on our 'Cables Manufacturers' webpage. By the way, Grado has now removed the little RS-2 logo 'dots' from the earcup grille.
Please take a look at our official HeadRoom 'B-stock' webpage for a killer deal on a BALANCED XLR-terminated Grado RS2 headphone!!
