Freedom is a wonderful feeling and having great-sounding music wherever you roam only adds to the fun. The multiple driver earphones becoming widespread in the ear canal headphone (ECH) world are clearly the wave of the future and allow for precise sound anywhere you want it. Enter Swedish audio manufacturer Jays with their line of heavily-researched dual-microdriver Q-Jays. Not only do these discrete tweeter/woofer designs provide improved sonic resolution, greater instrumental separation, and better musical articulation -- just like a room speaker concept -- but multiple earphone drivers also allow for more expansive soundstage imaging and better recovery of low-level nuanced details like note decay, effects processing, and room reverb. The Q-Jays have a surprisingly excellent, full bass response and a crisply rendered, albeit slightly forward, timbral presentation in the upper treble ranges. Their even audio balance with great midrange presence can be considered a solid sonic improvement over the single-driver 'D-Jays' model. Our sole minor quibble is that with very complex music or during ultra-intense passages the detail can become a bit compressed-sounding at times. Of course, we always find something to rail about but that's really a bit of a reach given the Q-Jays on-the-money pricing. We can conclude without reservation the Q-Jays are very impressive earphones, even for the jaded audiophilic nerds stalking the halls at HeadRoom.

The truly knock-out feature of these is how dang tiny they are. In fact, the Q-Jays are claimed to be the smallest dual-driver ECH in the world; they're ideal for use under helmets and in situations where remaining inconspicuous with your killer tunes is important. The ambient isolation factor is, of course, excellent. Expect thorough external noise-blocking using properly fitting Q-Jays earphones even in the noisiest of listening environments!

We have encountered that the Q-Jays require significantly more on-board filter replacement compared to other earphone brands. We highly recommend purchasing an additional set of filters with any Jays earphone. The Q-Jays fit /accessories kit is extraordinarily well-outfitted and contains 6 sizes of flex-silicon eartips (XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL), a pack of 8 earphone nozzle filters, a two-prong airplane stereo adapter, and a 3.5mm (1/8") stereo splitter all neatly contained within a stitched leather carrying case. The modular / interchangeable Jays cabling design remains standard and the Q-Jays have two 35"-inch extension cables provided in the box; one cable with straight-plugs, one with angled terminations. The earpieces feature a 2-ft Y-cord design terminated to 3.5mm gold-plated mini-plug connectors.
