The Sennheiser CX300 made a big impact with mobile listeners upon its release a couple years back. Now comes the sonically improved and cosmetically updated CX500 edition for the more demanding music afficionado wanting to up the sound quality of their laptop, iPod, or other portable audio source. We hear these as a stronger bass-flavored refinement of the CX300 concept with better musical detail resolution across the board and well-expanded, more precise dynamics. The wider array of eartips provided in the CX500 is a giant plus and allows for a more correct fit, important if you've experienced any comfort issues with ECHs in the past. The CX500 provides respectable isolation/noise-blocking ability but likely not quite up to par with deeper fitting ear canal headphones (ECHs). An excellent value for folks not crazy about the invasive in-ear insertion of typical ECHs but still wanting killer sound in a small and pocket-friendly form.

The CX500 will attenuate about minus -10dB to -15dB of ambient noise depending on the quality of the ear canal seal achieved. They come with different sized silicon eartip sleeves in single & double-flanged designs (each in S/M/L) included in the packaging and feature a volume slider integrated into the cable which folks who hate fiddling with the volume control on the player will appreciate. The cord is about 4.5ft long and terminates to a right-angle gold-plated 3.5mm mini-plug. Also included in the CX500 accessories kit is a cable shirt clip, handy cable winder, and carrying pouch for convenient handling & storage. Available in various colors too!
