If you find yourself skating, skiing, scrambling, pounding the treadmill, or just commuting your way through the concrete jungle, a neckband-type headphone will remain solidly stable on your head while allowing for use of protective sport helmets or other stylin' headgear. The PMX40 is a low-priced entryway into neckband headphones and probably leaves something to be desired for listeners whose driving factor is sound quality. Realistically, at this product level, it's tough to demand outstanding audio performance and the best to expect is a durable build quality and decently comfortable ergonomics -- which the PMX40 provides in spades. If seeking an active-use headphone that you wouldn't mind taking to the streets or funking-up at the gym, the PMX40 is great start given the application. And for iPod fashionistas the neckband is always a big hit with the well-coiffed.

The small mesh-padded earcups on the PMX40 are a semi-sealed, ported construction and utilize Sennheiser's proprietary BassWind System for a claimed improvement in bottom-end sonics. As with most neckband designs, fit adjustability is non-existent which could prove an issue with big-headed types. The neckphone's matte grey color scheme is unobtrusive and will hide dirt easily. Highly efficient 24-Ohm impedance rating and a short single-sided 1.5 meter cord make the PMX40 perfect for use with just about any portable audio device on the market. Sennheiser's two-year manufacturer's warranty remains standard on all their headphones.
