Sennheiser RS 130

Wireless headphones have lots of convenient uses but usually their sound quality will not be able to match wired headphones in detail resolution, sonic punch, or dynamic range. That said, the RS-130 is probably the overall best-sounding headphone within Sennheiser's wireless line by a small margin. The RS-130's unique on/off switchable surround-sound (SRS) feature works ok at providing some semblance of 360-degree sonics but, frankly, it doesn't function all that fabulously as it seems to lack spatial depth and immersive detail; It's but a mild approximation of true surround-sound but, heck, maybe that's better than none at all! The highs and mids are acceptably clear but the RS-130 is missing some heft and authority in the bass response just like most wireless headphones. Also, the open-backed headphone design does not provide much external noise attenuation for those who want to listen to TV, music, or talk radio in peaceful isolation -- check out the RS-140 model for a good sealed-design [closed earcup] wireless can. And, as with many wireless headphones, background static can sometimes be problematic especially in local environments with high levels of EMI (electromagnetic) or RFI (radio frequency) interference. So wireless headphones are generally not recommended for hardcore audiophiles looking for top-shelf sonic quality but are just fine for general use with televisions & radios or for undemanding listening applications.

The RS-130 coverage is a far-ranging 100 meters as claimed by Sennheiser. That likely varies somewhat depending on obstructions or barriers in the line of transmission from the base unit but it should still have a decent reach in the majority of applications around the home/office. 3 separate channels are available for signal transmission from the base unit to the headphones to avoid any possible audio interference. The RS-130 headphones have large circumaural earpads covered in soft velour and a full-size headband design that is fairly lightweight (15 oz.) and comfortable considering it carries two AAA NiMH batteries & assorted electronics. The base transmitter doubles as a recharging station by simply hanging the headphone on the base. The headphones should operate for about 20 hours or so per charge. A full 2-year product warranty is provided by Sennheiser and all connector cables necessary for hooking up the unit are included in the package.
