At HeadRoom, we've been designing and manufacturing headphone amps and DACs for nearly 20 years so we choose the products we carry from other makers with deliberate and extreme prejudice. Bringing aboard the Peachtree Audio NOVA amp/DAC/headphone amp unit was one of the easiest no-brainer decisions we've made. Once we heard the magnificent sound quality and realized the well-conceived feature set of the Peachtree NOVA, it became abundantly clear this was not the usual integrated component with a headphone jack after-thought. Given its accomplished audio engineering and superbly executed D-A processing, NOVA's robust 80 watts per channel means your digital-based music will breathe easy and soar uncluttered with renewed dynamics and headroom (!) to spare. The NOVA's extra-quiet, galvanically isolated USB DAC input allows direct hi-rez connectivity for your computer or music server of choice, suddenly transforming your ho-hum iTunes or lower-bitrate music files into fully fleshed-out, cohesive sonic works that convert your computer into an 'audiophile-grade' home/office music source. The NOVA offers convenience, features and sound quality never before mastered in high-end audio at this price.
The handy remote control provides the option of engaging either a solid-state or "hybrid" tube-based input stage. Via the NOVA's Sabre 9006 DAC chipset, uncompressed CDs and Lossless .WAV rips had a wonderful vinyl-like smoothness and natural warmth to them, no doubt due in part to the lovely 6922 tube innards. And for some added wow factor, when the vacuum tube activates, a glowing blue LED light illuminates within the chassis for a nifty touch of bling. Engaging the tube makes the amp's signature slightly more rounded, as expected, but sans any loss of detail or roll-off in the uppermost highs. Knowledgeable headphone afficionados will appreciate the 'Class-A' headphone output and auto on/off feature: just plug in your headphones and the speakers instantly mute. Tremendously well-executed, sensibly priced product and an excellent foundation for any new or existing audiophile system given the myriad potential applications of the Peachtree NOVA.
Housed within the curvy neo-art deco gloss looks of the NOVA, multiple S/PDIF digital optical and co-ax connections enhance the zeros and ones coming from your CD, DVD player or home theatre receiver set-up. For you Sonos ZP fans, a wireless port is built-in to the NOVA and can connect via a single coaxial S/PDIF cable, a sweet bonus if wanting to go wireless employing Sonos server-based music. A variable preamp output ensures effective use of a dedicated subwoofer or added outboard amplification, should you elect to do so. As a big plus, the 'Aux In' connection of the NOVA can double as a true home theater bypass so you can have the best of home theater and two-channel within one system. Just use the left/right 'Pre Out' from your receiver and connect to the "Home Theater" bypass on the NOVA's rear panel; a selector switch converts this third analog input from Aux to "Home Theater" bypass, shifting the left/right mains load from your receiver to the NOVA, thus freeing it to more efficiently power the center & surround sound speakers. Need more power for left & right speakers? The NOVA's handy modular design accepts an outboard amplifier, allowing flexibility to play nice with multichannel gear and illustrating the wonderful "above and beyond" nature of Peachtree engineering. Vinyl LP lovers can use the analog inputs for phono stage connection with fantastically dynamic results. Rear panel switch allows users to select 'soft' or 'sharp' DAC filter settings ('sharp' offers more precise audio specs but 'soft' seems to be the preferred listening choice around here). A huge plus for international customers or frequent travelers, the NOVA's user-switchable voltage selector for the power supply works worldwide in 115VAC for North America/Japan or 230VAC for overseas & international current demands.
