Great Amp- Certainly NOT limited to desktop listening . . .

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Musical, Great Low-End, Smooth Highs, Detailed Sound
Cons: Poorly marketed, lack of detailed specs Headroom, long break-in, no balanced inputs

I love this amplifier. It comfortably drives all but the least sensitive/lowest impedance speakers I've tried to beyond safe levels in small and medium sized rooms. Reproduces clear, deep low frequencies with excellent control. Great detail, spatial information, and time domain consistency. Non-fatiguing, smooth, musical, with effortless dynamics. low output impedance, super low harmonic distortion and intermodulation distortion. Dead quiet. Headroom's input buffer seems to be transparent with trouble free connection to a variety of sources and good common-mode rejection. Perfect (as advertised) for ultra nearfield workstation/desktop listening (I have the amp paired with Denon SC-CX101 two-way speakers in this application), but why stop there? I have started using the tiny Desktop Stereo Amp to power my control room monitors (Dynaudio Focus 140's). Drives these speakers at moderate to loud volumes for days at a time without breaking a sweat. Unless you are attempting to drive difficult loads to freakishly loud levels in large rooms this amp is fantastic. It is tiny, which is awesome. It gets a little bit warm after hours of use but never very warm at all. Super efficient- in a small room filled with class-A electronics this cool-running amplifier is a welcome relief from additional heat creation and power consumption. I wish Headroom would at least link to the B&O Icepower web site or provide the detailed specs for the 50ASX2 module- they are pretty outstanding and would help to sell more of these amps. Also, I wish headroom would provide more detailed information about their input buffer- at the very least input impedance! The ASX2 modules have balanced inputs- I wish Headroom would provide the option of balanced inputs on XLR connectors. I'm not a weirdo about "breaking-in" electronics (transducers/speakers/headphones/anything that physically vibrates excepted), but this amplifier really opens up after 150+ hours- noticeably deeper and smoother. These amps are great and much more versatile than Headroom makes them sound. I'm sure the Bi-Amp Pair would be plenty to power most home 2-channel systems.
has detailed, useful specs for the 50ASX2 on the downloadable pdf data sheet. Seriously try one of these in any small to medium set-up - it could replace your current big crappy hot heavy transformer hum-inducing butt-ugly space-wasting power-wasting stereo amplifier.
