With the T50P portable headphone German audio innovators Beyerdynamic have made the closest aproximation of their upscale reference T1 model, applying the newly developed 'Tesla' technology to dynamic headphones designed for mobile use. Utilizing the most high-end engineering and materials design ever applied to a small 'on-ear' portable headphone, the T50 sounds just as remarkable as its premium machined-panel looks. Expect outstanding timbral clarity from the Tesla voice coils and driver arrays with an especially precise tone in the mids/highs, along with a well-controlled yet fully satisfying bass response. Perhaps slightly brittle-sounding right out of the box (just like its full-size $1,300 T1 brethren!), we feel about 200hrs of 'burn-in' time is likely needed for the T50 to nicely break-in, warm up and sonically perform at its very best. The earcups offer a true supraural 'on-ear' fit and will rest comfortably directly on the ears for most wearers. The luxuriant soft leather pad cushions on the T50 earcups help provide impressive isolation from ambient noise and also tremendous wearing comfort, meaning this is one small-sized headphone that nearly all audiophile listeners will find something to cheer about.
The Beyerdynamic T50P have a highly distinctive machined aluminum construction that's nothing short of spectacular. Completely rotateable earcups allow the headphones to store flat in their provided case for ease of transit and/or storage. The aluminum headband is ultra-light, leather-padded underneath for long-wearing comfort, very sturdy-looking and provides secure 10-step sizing adjustment detents for an easy proper fit on all heads. The T50's very lightweight double-sided 'Y'-cord exits from both earcups and terminates in mini-plug 3.5mm jack ideal for iPods, iPads and MP3 players; a full-size 1/4" plug adapter is handily included by the manufacturer. The T50's total cord length is 1.2 meters (nearly 4 feet), just about the perfect size for mobile listening without dreaded cord tangling.
