Applications:
With the T50p portable headphone, German audio innovators Beyerdynamic have made the smallest approximation of their upscale full-size reference T1 and T5p models. Beyer engineers applied their proprietary 'Tesla' technology to portable dynamic headphones geared for mobile use hoping to make one of the best audiophile 'mini' headphones on the market. Utilizing the most advanced engineering and materials design ever brought to bear on portable cans, the T50p sounds as remarkable as its unique machined-panel looks imply. We hear good clarity from the Tesla voice coils & driver arrays with an especially precise albeit slightly bright. leading tonality in the mids/highs, along with a controlled bass response. The T50p can be slightly brittle-sounding right out of the box (just like its full-size $1,300 T1 and T5 brethren), so we feel about 200~300hrs of 'burn-in' play-time is likely needed for the T50p to nicely break-in, warm up and sonically perform at its very best. The T50p earcups offer a true supraural ('on-ear') fit and will rest comfortably directly on the earlobes for most wearers. The genuine leather pad cushions on the T50p cups provide respectable isolation from ambient noise and decent wearing comfort, meaning this is one small-sized headphone that many portable listeners will find something to cheer about. Great synergy with Apple iPad.
The Beyerdynamic T50p have a highly distinctive machined aluminum headband construction that's nothing short of way-cool. Completely rotateable earcups allow the headphones to store flat in their provided Beyerdynamic case for ease of transit and/or storage. The aluminum headband is ultra-light, leather-padded underneath for long-wearing comfort, very sturdy-looking and provides secure 10-step sizing adjustment detents for an easy proper fit on all heads. Unlike the similar Beyerdynamic DT1350 look-alike 'brother' model, the T50p headband does not have a 'split' design but instead has a solid one-piece machined aluminum construction for maximum durability. The Beyerdynamic T50p's very lightweight double-sided 'Y'-cord exits from both earcups and terminates in mini-plug 3.5mm jack ideal for iPod, iPad, computers and MP3 players; a full-size 1/4" stereo plug adapter is handily included in the box by the manufacturer. The T50p's total cord length is 1.2 meters (nearly 4 feet), just about the perfect size for mobile listening without dreaded cord tangling. A completely free 2-year service & repair warranty is handled exclusively by Beyerdynamic worldwide with your authorized dealer (HeadRoom!) 'proof-of-purchase' receipt. Designed, engineered and manufactured in Germany.

Pros: Comfort, Sound, Build
Cons: Small earpieces
I heartily second the notion that these headphones need burn-in. While I'm sometimes dubious about burn-in, I usually do it because it may help the sound. Occasionally, as with the phones, the sound is dramatically improved with burn-in. I found out of the box a weird sound, especially during percussive piano passages. After about 50 hours of burn-in that distortion went away. Overall, the sound smoothed out after 50 hours. I'm not sure the 250 hours is absolutely necessary.
I was looking for a closed lightweight headphone. I wasn't looking for a portable or earpad design, but those types fit my requirements. I wanted closed for some isolation (if I want super isolation, I go to the Etymotic4s). I wanted lightweight for comfort. Heavier phones cause me headaches. While I loved the sound of some recently purchased Senn650 and ATM50, they just killed the top of my head and gave me headaches. These are lightweight enough to not do that.
Position is also important. I'm used to Grado earpad fit and initially positioned these back on my ears a bit too far. Bringing them forward helped with sound and comfort.
Build on these is fantastic. The metal headband, like with the Grados, allows for easy adjustment to fit. I would have preferred the headbands being able to split, as with the newer DT1350.
Again, they sound great for acoustic music, such as classical and jazz.
