The Sony MDR-7506/7505 models have long reigned as the headphones of choice for the pro studio and recording community due to their excellent longevity and cleanly detailed, full-range sound. The smallest member of the 'MDR-7500' line-up is the nicely affordable entry-level MDR-7502 model which shrinks the overall dimensions while keeping fairly similar sonics as the bigger studio-oriented cans, all wrapped up in a more travel-friendly and portable 'on-ear' earpad construction.

Sony has led the way in many different audio and video fields for decades with headphones being no exception. Taking off from the storied MDR-7505/7506 studio headphones, the small-sized MDR-7502 headphone is designed for lightweight mobile listening with portable audio sources like laptops, MP3 players and iPod / iPad devices. Although not quite up to the sonic standards of those lauded Sony cans, the MDR-7502 is well-engineered for clean digital musical reproduction and presents a smooth timbre without any sharp 'edges' or grain to the sound, which listeners rocking their iTunes music files will appreciate. The speaker diaphragms found inside this unassuming but nifty little can are made from a unique high-molecule film and surrounded by copper-clad aluminum voice coils -- pretty high-end, durable stuff given the nice price of the MDR-7502. The slim-profile on-ear construction feels easy on the ears with virtually zero headband clamping pressure or uncomfortable 'squeezed ears' sensation. The sealed-back earcups provide a mild degree of ambient noise-blocking insulation and sound leakage protection, but the 7502's smaller earpiece dimensions will allow some external noise through to help remain aware of your surroundings -- a nice plus in the hectic big city or while out & about in traffic.
The Sony MDR-7502 come in an all-black color save for the classic blue/silver horizontal flash across the outer earcups emblazoned with the Sony "Professional" logo graphics. Blue and red markers indicate the left & right earcups for proper stereo imaging. The fairly wide headband is a proprietary Sony design for their MDR series and will comfortably extend to fit all listeners well; folks with smaller heads will especially enjoy the comfortable wearing ergonomics of this neat little headphone although even the biggest noggin guy at HeadRoom (thanks, Big Werm!) found the fit to be just dandy. The MDR-7502 headphone cord is a quality Litz cable construction and extends about 5.5ft total, ideal for tangle-free mobile listening. The cable terminates to a mini-plug 3.5mm (1/8") stereo jack and a full-size 'screw-on' 1/4" plug adapter is handily included in the Sony box.
