For quite a while now we've been anxiously awaiting THE great thousand dollar headphone. Quite a few have appeared: some were beautiful, but simply make-overs of current cans; some had only very narrow appeal; some were difficult to power correctly; and most were simply before their time and now discontinued. But in nearly every case we've been disappointed for one reason or another, and we've been impatiently pining for the first truly impressive entry into this demanding 'grand' category. Well, we wait no more! We are very pleased to tell you that the DENON AH-D7000 is the first (and hopefully not last) headphone to competently and legitimately inhabit the rarefied air of "Grand Headphones." The performance of these cans goes well beyond excellent measurements. Like any extremely fine piece of high-end audiophile gear, they have a luxuriant and subjectively appealing sound that simply draws in the listener, compelling you to listen to track after track of favorite music for hours on end as you discover new, previously-obscured details. While the midrange presentation is liquid and coherent, and the highs very well-extended and articulate, the truly astonishing characteristic of these cans remains the lowest octaves. These headphones simply have the best, most texturally accurate low-bass extension of any cans we've heard to date. Lab measurement bears out the fact that the AH-D7000 remain responsive a full octave lower than any other reference headphone we've measured in our HeadRoom audio facilities. However, don't mistake what we're saying here: the D7000 is not boomy, dark, woolly, murky, nor any other adjective used for flawed bottom-end response. Expect tight, punchy accuracy all the way into the sub-basement foundation allowing you to finally hear the bassoons, violas, tympani and percussion come fully alive in your favorite classical recordings; demanding pipe organ music never sounded so right as in these stunning headphones!
The impressive luxury doesn't stop with the sound quality either: glove-soft deep pleather earpads and headband cover are pliant and comfy; magnesium hard parts are light, tight, and stylish; gloss lacquered mahogany wood earpieces are a warm natural color; and the headphones are connected with a fabric covered, high-purity, oxygen-free 10ft copper cable terminated in a gold plated 1/4" headphone plug. No mini-plug 3.5mm adapter is included (we recommend the Cardas Audio 1/4"-to 1/8" adapter if plugging into a source with small 3.5mm outputs). The AH-D7000 offers headband sizing with seven-step adjustment so most wearers should be able to get a proper fit with these full-size circumaural cans. One nice plus is the DENON D7000 logo is embedded under the shiny lacquer so over-handling won't wear away the earcup graphic; D5000 owners will likely be appreciative. The D7000 arrive in an appropriately lavish heavy-duty shipping/storage box outfitted in leather & lined with silk so your cans have a safe and opulent place to stow away when they're not on your head. Also found in the box is a soft DENON cleaning cloth to make sure your beloved headphones stay as slick-looking as the day you bought 'em. By the way, the mahogany wood used in the construction of the D7000 is not an endangered species as verified by CITES enviromental organization... Thanks, Denon
Balanced Recabling How to get it even better? Custom cabling on your DENON AH-D7000 will offer even richer detail and a more spacious sound. How do we do it? We start with a custom fabricated, highly upgraded 10-foot cable, specifically designed, trimmed, tinned, and finished for D7000 headphones. Then we carefully disassemble your beloved D7000s and completely remove the stock cable and connectors. The end result is a completely professional and fully warranteed upgrade that will long serve your balanced listening pleasure. Of course... you'll need a balanced XLR-output headphone amp and, ideally, an excellent balanced source. We currently offer the incredible HeadRoom Balanced Ultra Desktop Amp.
