Ever had your inner ear tickled by deep in-ear headphones? Well, top Chinese audio manufacturer YUIN arrives with the YUI PK2 earbuds to rescue iPod, iPad, mp3 and computer listeners tired of the rather invasive, often uncomfortable in-ear monitor [IEM] fit ergonomics. The YUIN PK2 have very impressive sound quality previously unequaled in the earbud category anywhere near this price and a musical clarity that must be heard to be believed. Thankfully, the easy-to-wear, less fastidious fit typical of earbuds remains but unlike other buds on the market, the PK2 sound quality is completely head & shoulders above most we've heard -- and about equal to many higher priced IEMs. The PK-2 cleanly presented treble range extension and solidly balanced bass response will completely outshine the cheapo buds found in the box with your player device or at the Apple shop. Naturally, don't expect much ambient noise-blocking when compared to deep-fitting in-ears but if great sound quality -- not great isolation -- is your goal, the YUIN PK2 will put a gigantically pleased smile on your great-sounding, comfy head.

The YUIN PK2 come with a selection of thin foam mesh earpads: 2 pairs with the hole-in-the middle style and one pair without the hole. The PK-2 features a 4ft long 'Y' type cable. As with the other YUIN earbuds, the PK-2 comes only in a black matte color. A grey wood-paneled little gift box contains the PK-2 and all assorted goodies like a gold-plated 1/4" plug adaptor and extra mini earpads. The PK-2's measured 20Hz ~ 20,000kHz frequency response matches that of nearly all earphone designs except for upscale high-end earphones. [HeadRoom Tip #176: For best durability, always pull the earbuds out of your ears by grabbing the rounded earpiece itself -- not the cable! -- during earbud removal or insertion.] The YUIN 1-year manufacturer's product warranty is serviced exclusively through the Head-Direct/USA offices located in New York USA.

Truly, A Top Earbud!
Posted by omahapianist on 2011-03-26

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Dynamic, Great Soundstage, Warm, Just Enough Detail, Supremely Balanced
Cons: Design Is Ordinary, No Clip To Secure Cable To Clothing

First things first. Why do most people complain about the bass not being boomy or ultra low in these buds? I don't think Yuin had that in mind when designing them (or the PK1's). And besides, it's about balance. The bass, mid-range, and treble all work well together with no one frequency jumping out of line to make itself known. With these buds, the bass is meant to be LISTENED to, not felt or vibrating your eardrums. There are other brands on the market that can bang your skull with deep bass but it's not natural in most cases. The bass IS there in the PK2's - tight, controlled, and very musical, just like the midrange. Throw in a warm and detailed treble (with no etch or shrillness ) and you have, in my opinion, the world's greatest earbud for under $100.00. True musicality with just enough audiophile qualities to please even some of the most discriminating "sound lovers". End of story.

They do sound wonderful plugged directly into a portable unit but the quality of the sound goes up a notch or two when plugged directly into a headphone amp. Or, if you're like me who also uses the PK2's in a computer-based system, a headphone amp/DAC can really bring out the quality of the sound. And it's not always a subtle difference.

Overall, if I have to describe the sound of these uber-buds, I would say they have a tube-like sound that musical and warm but not lushy, romanticized, or sugary. Having said that, I have not heard the PK1's and that may be a purchase for me in the near future but if you don't want to spend a lot of money and want something that will definitely sound better than your included-in-the-package earbuds, the PK2's are a clear choice.

We'll See if They Last...
Posted by skookie5 from San Francisco, CA on 2010-12-29

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Great Highs and Lows, Soundstage, Comfy/Fit Well
Cons: Low Base, Okay Voice, Pricey

After reading countless reviews, I decided to make this purchase. This had been largely warranted by a need to replace my stock Apple Earbuds - so I decided to splurge a bit. Listening to the buds now there is a laundry list of pros and cons - the former far outweighing the cons. To start, bass is definitely lacking. But while this may be true, the soundstage is vivid and intense. It is the clear that these were suited for rock bands like Journey or Muse who construct multi-levels epics that are a bit less focused on a singer's voice. That is where these headphones get a 3 out of 5- voices come through pretty well but Rap sounds decidedly 'meh'. They are very comfy and come with a variety of earbud pads that fit on the headphone perfectly. As many reviewers have noted they are simple but elegant- great yet unassuming (you could never guess the 80 dollar price tag without listening to them). Finally, I noticed allot of people seem to be getting upset since they tend to break after varying amounts of time. But these are earbuds- its just how they are. Considering earbuds get the most worn of all headphones they are inherently more likely to break. That's my 2 cents, and honestly if are looking for an earbud with lush highs and lows (and trust me this is the best and only earbud for the job), you would DEFINITELY not regret a purchase. I guess I'll have to see if they'll last for me...

Overrated Not worth the cost
Posted by Kusinagi from Ireland on 2010-12-04

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Comfortable and portable
Cons: narrow, undetailed, tinny sound, overpriced

I was looking for good sounding, portable and comfortable headphones for use while commuting to college on the train. I find in ear headphones uncomfortable and any over ear headphones are a bit too bulky and garish for my purpose. So I thought the PK2 would be a good fit. How very wrong I was! The sound is rubbish for a headphone of this price, the Koss KSC75 is better in all respects at 1/4 of the price. If this is the best un-amped earbud then all earbuds are sh#@!!
