Delivering full-featured audio performance at a very good price, the Klipsch Image Reference S4i is a very good-sounding, high-isolation in-ear headset with voice mic for those enjoying music and talking on the phone while out & about. Klipsch's unique oval gel eartips block most ambient noise and are also very comfortable too, so both your music listening and your smartphone chat remain undisturbed. Applications:

An impressive in-ear headset at a fair price designed for conversational travelers who gravitate towards rich music reproduction, the Klipsch Image Reference S4i has strong but clean bass response with good analytical detail at all frequencies. The built-in mic is basically omnidirectional so it delivers clear conversation to the party on the other end without needing to be held up to your mouth for facile Apple iPhone or iPad call functionality. The overall tone is quite smooth on top treble ranges and slightly 'dry-sounding' with certain high-detail audiophile recordings. Bass stays round but nicely textural and in-the-pocket without undue boom or bap. Interestingly, this sonic signature well-serves improved call & voice intelligibility since an overly boomy low-end won't get in the way of call quality. While the Reference S4i overall acoustic performance largely remains slightly superior to other in-ear headsets at this price, the build quality and wearing comfort of these little gems is completely head & shoulders above most others -- as expected from the world's largest speaker manufacturer.

One of the reasons that isolation and comfort are both terrific with the Klipsch Image Reference S4i in-ear headset is primarily due to the unique oval eartip design patented by Klipsch Audio. Klipsch engineers determined that the average ear is basically oval in cross-section and designed eartips that correctly conform to this difficult shape. The advanced Klipsch tips do indeed work very well; we found the isolation and comfort of this headset superior to almost all others we've tested anywhere near this price, which may be a big consideration for newcomers to the 'in-ear' headphone experience. The S4i earpiece cosmetics are black with some neat copper flashing for looks appeal. A small sliding cord-keeper is included on the cable so that once the earpieces are in place, the cables can be routed over the top of your ears, and then snugged at the back of the neck to avoid cord slack or tangles. This also ensures a secure fit and prevents the cables from rubbing against your clothing and making dreaded 'cable microphonics' noises at your ears. Handily, four different Klipsch gel eartip sizes [XS/S/M/L] and a carrying/travel pouch is included with your S4i Reference purchase.

Clean Sound, Great Fit
Posted by RDustinB from The Orion Arm on 2012-07-09

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Light weight, Comfortable, Mic/Remote, Sound Clarity
Cons: Price Point, Cord, Carrying Case

Overall, this headset is the best in-ear set of headphones I have owned. The sound quality is very good and the fit is amazing. I have worn the pair for over four hours at a time and I don't get a headache like I did when I wore the basic $10 Skull Candy ear buds.

The remote/mic was the reason I purchased the "i" series as I wanted a replacement for the stock iPhone headphones, since they suck.

The low end is good, but they are ear buds so it won't be exceptional. Vocal high end is crisp, but musical high end is a little muffled in my opinion.

I think the pricepoint is high, it should be around $70 instead of $100. The carry case is nice but not very good, it amounts to an altoids tin with some foam and Klipsch engraved on the top.
I am worried about the cable quality as many have reported that the wiring fails after a few months. I may change my review but for now four stars it is!

Update 09/23/12
Now after having these hedphones for over two months I can say that their durability is fine. No worse that a standard set of earbuds that come with an iDevice or an Android. Nothing wrong with the durability. Plus with the two year warranty if they break, oh well. Pushing the durability up a star.

Still give it a four star rating as they are only ear buds and the sound quality isn't ever going to be stellar compared to say a Grado set of phones. All in all though a great buy.

Decent but could be better
Posted by bswanplsbo on 2012-05-01

Recommend Product: No
Pros: good bass, comfortable, 3 button mic
Cons: poor high end (treble), flimsy cord

I bought the Klipsch S4i's to use with my iPhone. Overall, I would say the sound is decent but not outstanding. It delivers good bass response, but the high end is lacking clarity. It sounds muffled, and that is really disappointing. I can mitigate it to a certain extent by setting my iPhone's equalizer to "Treble Booster", and that helps a little bit, but the high end should be better than this.

There are some things I do like about the S4i. The standard oval flange on the earbuds are a good fit for my ears, and I love the 3-button mic. Being able to change tracks and volume without having to access the iPhone screen is really nice.

I do find the cords to be flimsy, and it's pretty hard to fish the ear buds out of your ears without tugging on the cord, which I can foresee leading to these breaking sooner rather than later.

Overall, the S4i is a decent, but not outstanding, headphone. There is definite room for improvement, most notably with the high-end sound quality.
