Applications:
The NOCS NS800 in-ear monitors offer a classically 'European' sound presentation that reminds us of the impressively pristine Etymotic ER4 tonality but with a touch more mid-bass presence versus the typically lean, tightly recessed Ety bass. Although the furthest thing from being a "bass-centric" headphone, the NS800 does have a flattering fullness in the bottom-end that is not heard in many other headsets while still staying fairly neutral and 'flat' in overall response (check our HeadRooom graphs). Of course, the reference-level Ety ER4 provides no telecommunication features, so for Apple iPhone / iPad-based mobile listeners looking for full-telephony in-ears without overly exaggerated lows, we think the NOCS NS800 fits the audiophile bill with a friendly, warmer sound yet sans loss of treble detail or musical definition. The 'built-in' microphone intelligibility is complemented by the crisp tone of the mid-range frequencies which renders speech and voices with a pleasing smoothness, so users on both sides of the call should be acoustically chuffed. The NS800 Monitors model has NOCS-patented 'balanced armature' transducers featuring one of the top driver designs in the in-ear category; balanced armature engineering allows for improved musical accuracy and low-to-high extension from very small earpiece dimensions. In fact, the rounded-back NS800 earpieces are unobtrusive enough to fit under caps and helmets for sport applications or cyclists; the round-back shaping helps to slide a helmet over one's head without knocking the earpieces out of the ear canal. For serious sound quality buffs -- and who reading this isn't!! -- trying to get the clearest performance from an in-ear headset, HeadRoom can easily recommend these as a reasonably priced high-performance product comparable to other in-ears at significantly pricier extremes.
The NOCS NS800 Monitors have a 3-button control on the cord with skip track / volume control for most recent Apple iPod models plus a built-in microphone compatible with iPhone and iPad. Included is four sets of soft black silicon sleeves for a personalized fit. As always with any in-ear headphone purchase, please remember to try all the various eartips included in the packaging for the very best fit -- and the best resulting sound quality. The cord extends about 4.5ft so its long enough without getting in the way during portable listening.
