Sennheiser's recent HD "400" series of well-priced full-size headphones brings music lovers serious sound quality at a fraction of the expected cost for this caliber of excellent acoustic performance. High output yet extremely lightweight, fast-response Sennheiser-patented neodymium drivers ensure clean distortion-free bass and soaring harsh-free highs from the large 40mm HD429 drivers. Efficient 32 Ohm impedance mates well with basically any audio device you want to plug into. The closed-back "circumaural" (around the ear) earcup construction provides solid environmental isolation and listening privacy while preventing unwanted 'leakage' from the headphones to your neighbors -- especially important when jamming large in close quarters. The new cross-hatched outer grill on the earcups looks cool and adds frame stability. The HD429's beefed-up cable connectivity design is not detachable but is certain to add long-lasting cord durability, even when the cans are tossed around in transit within a backpack or carry-on bag. A top bang-for-the-buck value in the Sennheiser arsenal.

The full-size Sennheiser HD429 headphones have circumaural earcups that normally fit completely around the ear on most wearers and deliver a secure, correct fit without undue headband clamping force ruining your listening experience. The non-detachable, 'single-sided' cable (extra-nice for eliminating dreaded cord tangling!) extends from the left earcup and runs about 9ft to a 3.5mm (1/8") 'mini' plug termination. Leatherette earpad cushions are both durable and comfortable for extended jam sessions. They can also be easily replaced when the pads eventually wear out. A useful full-size 1/4" jack stereo adapter is included in the package. The excellent 2-year manufacturer's warranty remains free with your HeadRoom '100% authorized dealer' purchase receipt.

Among the best headphones in the price range
Posted by Meowspergers from Houston, TX on 2013-10-31

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Extremely comfortable; good, expressive sound
Cons: Cord is thin, really long, and often a hassle

Sound Quality:
The overall sound quality of the HD 429 is good, but just short of being something to write home about. The mids, highs, and lows are all reasonably clear and never muddled, but, compared to more expensive cans, they lack definition and texture. Bass takes a little while to warm up, but is pretty good once it does.

These are some of the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. They are very light, pretty well ventilated, and fit snugly while not being tight. If it weren't for how big they are and that I sleep on my side, I could doze off while wearing them.

Look & Feel:
My only complaint in this department is that the cord, which is not detachable or replaceable on the 429s, is extremely long and frequently makes itself a nuisance. If you hit it (or any other part of the headphones, for that matter) against something while wearing them, it makes a *painfully* loud noise.

My HD 429s have lasted for well over a year of heavy use with no signs of deterioration. The cord, frame, and even the earpads seem as good as they were when I got them out of the box. The plastic is matte and does not smudge or scratch. The earpads, which are synthetic leather, get greasy every couple of weeks or so, but can be cleaned very easily with a cloth.

Long skinny cord
Posted by lsintobooks from Santa Fe, NM on 2013-07-08

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Good sound and value
Cons: Skinny cord looks fragile and is too long

The lightweight cord is what you would expect from ear buds. For a headset it seems very fragile and its length makes it a pain to use on an iPod. As it is not detachable, I expect it to break too soon and all will be lost.
