Sennheiser HD 435
MSRP $69.95
The open-backed Sennheiser HD-435 is basically the HD-415 headphone re-tooled with a detachable in-line volume control cable and a nifty red/orange inlay around the earcups for some extra added schwing factor. The sonics remain very similar to the HD-415 model with perhaps even more of a bump in the low mids / bass. The sound is definitely quite warm overall, but still nicely punchy and clear in the highs with the mid-ranges typically recessed a bit. All in all, a decent headphone for portable player use and for bass-loving listeners on a tight budget... Yet another thumpy, well-priced, solid-performing portable can from the headphone gurus over at Sennheiser!
The HD-435 's 32-ohm impedance rating and decent sensitivity make this a good headphone choice for using directly from most portable audio players, but a dedicated portable headphone amp will definitely help make this headphone sound clearer, significantly more authoritative, and improve the musical detail resolution when used from iPods, Mp3 players, and laptop computers. The single-sided detachable headphone cable exits from the left earcup and allows the user to effortlessly do cable replacements with a minimum of fuss & bother. The supra-aural, mid-sized earcups are foam-padded and covered in a soft fabric that is comfy on the ears. That same fabric is also used on the underside of the headband providing some nice extra padding. The headband fit adjustments are via a basic sliding headband mechanism that's simple to use and looks totally built-to-last. The HD-435 headphone cable is terminated to a gold-plated 1/8" [3.5mm] mini-plug, but a large-size 1/4" adapter is also included in the box along with a nice padded travel/carry-bag. Sennheiser's two-year product warranty remains standard with all their headphones.
