The HD465 are full-size, open-design headphones that fit in well with the lower pricepoint Sennheiser line. Their 32-ohm impedance rating makes the HD465 suitable to being easily driven directly by a portable player or from a computer. The bass response is large & full-sounding but the highs are definitely recessed, resulting in a slightly scooped mid-range presentation that tends to teeter on the muddy-sounding at times. The overall sonic signature remains pleasantly smooth, however, making these cans a pretty decent choice for the budget-concious listener and folks who enjoy them some groovy bass action. But the lack of detail resolution in the upper frequency range likely renders them out of consideration for demanding audiophile types. Probably a good can for funkateers, deep soulsters, and future hip-hop impressarios looking for bumpin', inexpensive jams.

The HD465 is an open supra-aural design with fairly large circular earpads covered in a plushy soft fabric material that rests against the whole of the ear. There is a depression in the middle of the earpiece allowing the ear to snuggle into place and position itself comfortably against the driver. The basic but sturdy black plastic composite headband is also covered in a similar fabric/foam combo and can easily adjust to differently shaped noggins via a solid sliding mechanism that looks durable and hard to break. The fit is extremely comfortable and feels very light on the head, perfect for long listening sessions. The single-sided 10 foot straight cord exits from the left earpiece and is terminated in a gold plated mini (1/8") plug. A screw-on 1/4" adapter is included in the package.
