Headphones
Sennheiser PMX 100
Here's a headphone uniquely well suited to good listening while very active outdoors. With both neck band and ear-clips, the Sennheiser PMX 100 will remain extremely secure on your head during even the most vigorous activity. The sound quality is very good for a headphone of this type and price.
Product Features:
- Very good sound quality for a headphone of this type/price.
- Extremely secure on the head with both neckband and ear-clip.
- Well suited for use with iPods.
Applications:
The Sennheiser open-backed PMX-100 offers some pretty decent sonics for such a little portable headphone. The behind the neck, street-style plastic/metal headband looks and works well, and secures to the head using small plastic earclips that hug the top of the earlobes. It's an okay design for listeners with smaller heads, but big-noggin types may find the non-adjustable fit to be a bit tight and uncomfortable. However, if keeping your hair looking lovely and unmussed is fashionista-critical, then the PMX-100 neckband may be just the answer! Overall, the PMX sound quality is fairly close to that of the Sennheiser PX-100 model with a clean bass response and good audio detail clarity in the mids/highs--but the PMX rates perhaps one notch lower sonically versus its better-fitting, more size-adjustable sister model. However, considering that the ranks of acceptable "behind the neck" neckband/street-style headphone designs remain small in number, the Sennheiser PMX series offers good-sounding alternatives to some of the Koss and Grado neckband/street-style models. The PMX-100 is a choice headphone for active listeners on a budget and on the move.
Designed for compatibility with most all portable music players, iPods, laptops/PCs, and Mp3s, the PMX-100's earpieces have a slickster black and grey spider web / art deco design motif that is visually striking and unique. The vented open-earcup design allows the listener to hear what's going on around them, a big plus when jamming large on busy city streets. The removable PMX earpads are also easily washable and replaceable when they wear out. The PMX-100's low 32-ohm impedance and 114dB sensitivity rating should provide more than enough volume output from any audio source. The four-foot headphone cable is terminated to a 1/8" (3.5mm) mini-plug and the standard Sennheiser 2-year product warranty remains in effect.

Pros: Great Sound
Cons: slightly uncomfortable for me
For folks who are used to this style but haven't experienced the PX-100 sound, this would be a great purchase. I got waaaaaaaaay more than my $50 worth from my PX-100s because they sound so good I wore them every day for years. The PMX-100 has the same great sound. With the open-back design the music sounds like it comes across your ears rather than being crammed into your ears like some closed back designs sound. The bass is great for listening to rock music, and the sound is full and surprisingly open and detailed for such a small portable headphone.
They don't quite fit as snug on your ears as the over-the-head model and would most likely slip around a bit if you were doing anything athletic like working out or pogo dancing. I do like the cable coming from one side as opposed to the y-cable that the PX-100 has. It doesn't get in the way of jacket zippers or seatbelt straps nearly as much as the PX. I ended up giving them to a friend who mostly uses them with his iMac at home and he loves them. He just isn't quite the dork I am in that he doesn't feel the need to wear headphones on his head or around his neck all day long no matter where he goes or what he does like I do.
