Sennheiser RS 170
Superb wireless headphone system for movie watching and music, the Sennheiser RS 170 employs new KLEER's digital transmission scheme to provide quality noise-free audio wire-free. The included RS 170 headphones are a sealed earcup design delivering isolation from outside noise while preventing the person next to you from hearing headphone 'leakage' -- a nice plus for keeping copacetic with the spouse or cubicle mate. The RS 170 wireless base station is way-cool looking, doubles as a charging station for the headphones, has an effective 'surround sound' feature for movie watching, and even a bass boost button that nicely bumps the bottom-end for those who love the lows.

Applications:
Excellent for upscale movie and DVD watching sans cables, the Sennheiser RS 170 wireless system not only sounds absolutely terrific, it also features independent "surround-sound" simulation and bass boost controls that actually offer quite good results. We're overjoyed with the clarity and sonic performance of these wireless RS 170 headphones, the end result of advanced acoustic research by the German-based engineering team at Sennheiser Electronics, and partly its use of proprietary KLEER digital signal transmission for the best clarity possible with wireless designs. In the past, most wireless headphones have been plagued with noisy transmission schemes that interfere with quality listening; KLEER is a third-party provider of CD-equivalent (16bit/44.1kHz) digital audio wireless transmission technology. These microchips deliver not only extremely high-definition audio quality, but offer low power consumption, allow for multiple headphones to be used from the same base (up to four), and automatically tune transmitter & receiver to the clearest channels while avoiding localized RF interference sources.
The Sennheiser HDR-170 headphones included are a sealed-back earcup construction so they'll provide some isolation from outside noise as you enjoy your TV, movies, or music in peace; the sealed-back also prevents 'leakage' from the headphones so that the person next to you on the sofa or in bed won't have to endure your audio -- a nice thing for the spouse or cubicle mate. Each earpiece accepts one [1] rechargeable AAA battery (included) and will run for about 24 hours per charge. Recharge time is long --16 hours from completely empty to full. The Sennheiser RS 170 will transmit up to about 120 feet range on 2.4-2.8gHz, auto-selecting the clearest channel for best performance. Run-time is about 24 hours on each full charge.Additional wireless Sennheiser headphones may be purchased separately with up to four (4) headphones operating simultaneously from one wireless transmission base. A strong 2-year manufacturer's warranty is provided by Sennheiser free on all their headphone products only when purchased from true Sennheiser-authorized dealers - like HeadRoom!

Pros: high quality sound, good transmitter range, highly reliable reception
Cons: None
My wife and both use wireless headphones and own several made by Sennheiser, JVC, Phillips, Koss, and other brands. The RS-160 headphones utilize a superior digitized RF signal, providing good sound quality and unsurpassed transmission range and signal reliability. These RS-170 headphones are not quite the sonic equal of my ATH-M-50 or AKG K-240 headphones, but considering you are paying for the transmitter, the receiver, and battery charging circuits, and the extra hardware associated therewith, the sound quality measures up to the cost.
They are the sonic equal of the less costly RS-160 headphones (which we also own), but have a greater transmitting range and include additional features such as surround sound, selectable enhanced bass circuitry, and a convenient recharging stand. I think the charging stand and greater transmission range justify springing for this slightly more expensive model.
These wireless headphones sound clear, bright, and fairly well balanced across the audible frequency spectrum, and are a obvious improvement over previous Sennheiser wireless headphones.
One very cool feature is the RS-170 headphones work with the RS-160 and RS-180 transmitters, and vice versa. This means you can buy multiple sets and activate more than one sound source for all headphones. My wife and I leave one transmitter on the stereo system for music, and another on the computer to listen to old time radio programs streaming audio on the internet. That obviates moving the transmitter between sound sources whenever one wants to change sound sources. Very cool, indeed. (You can do this with older Sennheiser headphones, also.)
The most important advantage is the superior transmission range and signal reliability compared to any other headphones we have tried. Our other wireless headphones all use 900MHz RF (radio frequency) signals, and suffer from much shorter effective transmitter range, and are plagued by aggravating drop-outs and annoying hiss from RF/EM interference as we move about the premises. These headphones use a digitized RF signal and have a far greater transmission range, with far greater resistance to signal drop-outs and are free from RFI and EMI (i.e., radio frequency and electromagnetic interference.) Now, we roam all over the house while listening to our favorite music and radio programs. The RS-170 transmitter covers the while house (a 40x60 foot two story home) with no problems.
Bravo ! - While these wireless headphones are a bit pricey compared to the alternatives - they are well worth it, and the price is quite reasonable considering the improved performance they provide. I have finally ended my long search for good sounding, highly reliable, consistent wireless headphones.
That is MY take, anyway.... James R in Michigan.

The only small gripe would be more user friendly buttons on the headphones.
