If you are really serious about high-end, ultra high-fidelity in-ear audio, take a look at the Shure SE530 used with an amp or at the hyper-expensive Ultimate Ears UE-11Pro custom-molded earphones. But if you are deep into quality earphone listening and just seek some major headbanging bass thump, the Shure E5C could be the hot ticket. The in-ear design of the E5C is quite warm-sounding and punchy with a significantly bass-rich response. But to give proper credit where it is due, the E5C is not a completely unbalanced earphone; while the bass is certainly emphasized, the transition from low frequencies to high remains very smooth and superbly detailed, resulting in a quite enjoyable earphone listening experience. Absolutely THE killer choice for hip-hop, electronica, deep funk, and R&B fans ...or just anyone who loves some seriously huge bumpin' grooves emanating from their little portable audio source. The E5C are the superb way to compensate for the weak-kneed bass response of many Mp3 devices and other portable audio players. The E5C could even make a great stage ear canal headphone for drummers and bassists and, of course, for really hip electric bassoonists too.... BassHeads Unite!

The dual-driver design of the E5C accomodates a large passive 'radiator' driver for maximum bass punch. Although not particularly "slim-profile", the ergonomic design of these earphones is quite good, with the slightly oversize driver housing accomodating the extra-bass armature. A reasonable selection of eartip sleeves is included along with the package. Unlike many ear canal headphone designs that rely on the eartip sleeves sealing into the ear canal to keep them in your ears, the E5C armature actually tucks right into the cup of your ear to keep itself secure. These earphones have a 5-foot cable terminated in a stereo 1/8" (3.5mm) mini-plug. A handy-dandy zippered hard clamshell case in which to carry/store these earphones is also included in the packaging.
