Great entry-level earphone sonics meets cool cosmetics in the clear Ultimate Ears 3-Studio, one of the best ear canal headphones available at the price. Inconspicuous clear earpieces and see-through cabling nicely ups the snazz factor. To complete their ultra high-end, audiologist-customized earphone line, Ultimate Ears decided to create an entry-level "universal-fit" earphone and the excellent SuperFi 3-Studio model is the result. Finally, no need to make an appointment with your local audiologist and having customized ear impressions made to get that famous Ultimate Ears quality… Yahoo! These earphones sound great right out of the box with a smooth, even-toned response across the entire audio range and decently-articulated mids and highs. We have noticed that the super.fi Studio-3's bass response definitely improves BIG-TIME when mated with a dedicated portable headphone amplifier; The 3Studio gets a tighter & much better focused bottom-end tone with any headphone amp! Overall, a rather satisfying and inexpensive audio upgrade to the completely crap-tastic stock earbuds that come with most portable player devices like iPods, Mp3s, laptop computers, and gamers. By the way, if seeking a more sonically accurate and SUPERBLY detailed audiophile-quality sound from your earphone, the upscale UE super.fi 5-Pro model offers significantly better extension on the upper highs, a deeper & more expansive soundstage image and a fuller, richer bass response.
The slightly rounded, larger-size drivers on the super.fi models don't insert as deeply into your ear canal as some other brands, which may mean a quicker adjustment/break-in period for earphone newcomers and a more comfortable overall fit for longer listening sessions. However, they do tend to stick out just a bit from the ear for most wearers. Conversely, achieving the all-important tight seal within the ear canal might take some doing but that is made exponentially easier by the 5 different sets of eartip sizes and varying eartip materials (single flange & double flange silicone, squishy foam -- try them ALL!) included with every Super-Fi accessories kit. The symmetrical 46-inch "Y" cord can be looped behind the ears to reduce potential cable noise and avoid cable obstructions and has a cable adjustor to snug the cord to the back of the neck. The 3-Studio's cord is terminated with a gold-plated 1/8" (3.5mm) mini-plug jack. All super.fi series earphones are available from HeadRoom in either black, white, or clear colors and a stylish travel/storage case is included along with a nice two-year Ultimate Ears parts & labor warranty.
