The Sennheiser RS 220 bridges the gap between wireless and wired headphones with newly enhanced DSSS [Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum] transmission technology. Able to work in crowded RF environments amongst Bluetooth, Kleer, FM/AM, TV and Wi-Fi signals, the RS 220 delivers clear, clean, robustly uncompressed audio without demanding special procedures or convoluted pairing to audio sources. Easily connects via digital optical, coax or stereo RCA method into any TV you own. Transmission base doubles as a sweet headphone charger stand with 'no worries' automatic operation. Amazing wire-free headphone sound quality!

After hearing the Sennheiser RS 220 debut at the Rocky Mountain Audio Festival in October of 2011, we knew wireless listeners would flip their lid once they got ears on the new benchmark in the industry. Finally released to the general public in early 2012, Sennheiser claims the RS 220 to be the closest approximation of the HD600/HD650 sound in a wire-free headphone and we can't say they've missed the mark. The RS220 delivers that classically smooth, warm and easy-to-enjoy tone historically expected from the Sennheiser HD650 headphones along with a supreme sense of musical ease and intelligibility not heard in other digital transmission wireless designs. With great music recordings and orchestral or symphonic soundtracks, the RS 220 offers surprisingly tight, full bass reproduction and a very dynamically exciting, quick extension into the uppermost frequencies with just a little grain detected in the mids. The background noise floor -- always problematic in many wireless cans -- is nearly non-existent in the RS 220 with less than <0.1% Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), a new spec low in wireless technology allowing dialogue and music to sound even more distinct than via built-in TV speakers. The talk/dialogue intelligibility of the critical vocal midranges remains well-focused albeit somewhat peaky depending, of course, on the caliber of original TV recording and source. But the slightly supine midrange presentation remains only a quibble given the intense engineering required to fabricate this impressive level of wireless headphone audio.

The Sennheiser RS 220 wireless transmission base can connect via several methods to your TV. Digitally via Toslink-Optical or S/PDIF 75 Ohm co-axial connections; the system supports sampling rates up to 96 KHz (downsamples to 44.1 kHz). Analog connection method is via standard stereo (left /right) RCA plugs. The RS 220 headphone run-time per charge is about 6~8hrs. Just like the HD650 or HD600, the RS 220 has completely open-back earcup construction so there's no ambient isolation or listening privacy possible with the RS 220 design -- perhaps a big plus for folks intent on remaining aware of their surroundings. Extra-soft form-fitting velour earpad cushions ensure hours of listening pleasure night after night and are replaceable if they ever wear out. The free 2-year premium manufacturer's 'repair or replace' warranty stays in effect only with your authorized Sennheiser 'proof-of-purchase' receipt, like the one you'll get from us here at HeadRoom.

Amazing for our very specific purpose

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: can listen to TV with the headphones AND through normal sound, can adjust each ear
Cons: expensive, on/off button right where I would remove the headphones

Headphone.com was SO wonderful and helpful in our selection process. My Dad is a WWII vet with hearing loss and a fancy, high def TV. We had two choices for wireless headphones and these are the only ones that you could adjust each ear to accommodate his hearing loss. He loves them - LOVES them! I only needed to buy a short TOS cable to plug into his TV. They are lightweight and he can hear while walking around from room to room without loosing his connection. My Mom can listen at regular volume through the normal sound output on the TV at the same time. Even though the price is high I would definitely recommend these to anyone wondering if they should spend the money. They have improved his TV watching. I made several phone calls and emails to get the details right for my Dad and his specific needs and Headphone.com was fabulous and looked at his TV online to determine his exact needs.
The price was the same as other places but I know I wouldn't have received the expertise from anyone else. This is what they DO!!!
I was surprised Sennheiser didn't have better documentation anywhere about using these with the high def TV and the TOS cable. Also the On/Off button for the headphones is right where my thumb would touch when removing the headphones. Not a big deal, just something I need to be aware of and modify my hand placement.
