HeadRoom's Custom Headphone Recabling Process

We've already talked about some of the excellent audio improvement benefits a custom re-cabled reference headphone offers audiophile listeners, but how the heck do we do it you might rightfully ask? 

HeadRoom headphone recable jobs are done by hand in our Bozeman Montana plant by our most highly skilled techs using only the very best Cardas Audio cabling available. No cheapo, noisy stuff here! The Cardas 'Fat-Pipe' cord geometry is a four-conductor design utilizing a braided shield cable featuring George Cardas' own Constant-Q Golden Ratio configuration. It employs oxygen-free pure copper Litz wire with pure teflon dialectrics. The durable outer sheath is a black color and made of a very light, highly pliable jacket emblazoned with the HeadRoom Fat Pipe logo. Also, since standard [single-ended] 1/4" headphone connections employ a shared ground at the plug, the beefy Cardas Audio 1/4" plug we use for our single-ended recable jobs is specially engineered to minimize potential signal crosstalk. We think Fat Pipe offers superior sound versus many of the often much more expensive 'boutique' headphone replacement cords seen elsewhere.

1. The HeadRoom process starts with a custom-fabricated, high-end Cardas Audio 'Fat-Pipe' cord precisely trimmed to the desired length, and specifically treated, tinned, and finished for your beloved high-end headphones.

2. We carefully disassemble the headphones and remove the stock cable -- in the process usually getting rid of a couple of extra connection points -- and we then laboriously smooth and properly prepare the extremely sensitive, delicate solder joints for cable attachment. In the case of beyerdynamic headphones, we thread the longer right channel cable through the headband and join your new Cardas cable directly to the actual driver  erminal blocks, a highly technical maneuver not for the faint of heart (or solder gun!).

3.  All cable connectors are terminated to the Fat-Pipe cord by hand using Cardas Ultra Pure Quadeutectic solder. Our top grade Cardas or Neutrik headphone connectors are 100% mechanically inert, fully isolated from electrical noise, and completely resonance-free, producing a very quiet, musical and superbly accurate cable capable of true sound reproduction.

4.  Once the recable job is completed, the headphones are thoroughly computer evaluated, then listener tested, and finally carefully packaged for return shipping back to you. The end result is a completely professional, fully warranteed HeadRoom upgrade that will long serve your audiophile listening pleasure.
