Sennheiser HD 25-1-II Product Reviews

A classic for over two decades in studio and pro audio circles, the HD25-1-II offers amazing Sennheiser sealed performance and delivers solid isolation with an engagingly full, highly musical tone. Also perfect for awesome portable listening, the unique headband design on this on-ear can is ideal for active users and 'splits' to create a hat-like brim for an extra-stable, very comfortable fit. Producers or DJs love the swiveling earpads that rotate for one-ear club mixing. Musical quality is terrific with punchy impact, clean bass response and great low-level detail resolution.

best headphones I've owned

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: light weight, built like a tank, sound amazing
Cons: can be uncomfertable after a while

I was using some steelseries headphones but I decided it was time for an upgrade. I was ready to get either the new Bose or Dr Dre Studio headphones but decided to look around a bit. In the end, after talking to a pretty hardcore audiophile, I found these. Gotta say, the sound quality of these is just amazing. I went and listened to both, the Bose and the Dr Dre's and I have to say... neither of them really compared. These cost $100 less and sound better. Sure, the looks may not be top priority but who really cares when you get sound this good? And these things are built like a tank. Everything is very sturdy. But to make things better, virtually every piece of these headphones is easily replaceable if something goes wrong.
I only have one con on these and it's that they can become a little uncomfortable to wear after a while. This isn't too bad though because I can generally just adjust the position a little and be good to go for another hour or so.
So yes, I highly recommend these headphones to anyone who wants a great pair. It's just my opinion, but I'd say these are probably the best sounding set you'll get for up to the $350 area.

Great little Headphones

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Wonderful sound reproduction. Good isolation, Value and erogonomics in a working atmosphere
Cons: The fit takes some getting used to

When I first received the HP25-1 II I was a little disappointed. They were tight on my head, to bright for my liking and bass was a little lacking. Right out of the box I was comparing them with my HD280s and felt that the 280s were better in every aspect except ergonomics. After a couple weeks of use I got used to the fit and started to notice the presentation was improving.

I actually fell in love with these headphones at CanJam 2010. Up till this point I was driving the phones with my ipod. I had read some reviews and an amp was recommended so I was on a mission for an amp. After many amps and comparing these phones with the best of the pack I can honestly say that they hold there own with the bid dogs when they have the right source and amplification. They have nice bass response and the highs were no longer overpowering. Overall I would say the sound spectrum is very well balanced.

There isolation is great when I use the phones at work or play. They stay on your head what ever activity you participate in, and when someone is trying to speak with you, you can easily pull them off to one side and listen. They have a rugged build and I suspect they will last for many years no matter what your activities are. Parts are readily available and the phones have a very simple construction so they are easy to work on and modify if you so desire.

Final thoughts. These Great little phones don't come alive until they have been burned in and are given a good source and amplification. The fit takes a little getting used to so give them some time.

Not your typical Sennheisers

Posted by nonsupremous from Oklahoma on 2010-05-26

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Detail, highs, mids, comfortable, cord
Cons: bass, small soundstage

There have been so many times in the past that I was dialing the phone with headroom getting ready to order these headphones and I hung up before the call connected. The reason?: I have always felt that Sennheiser headphones are too lad back for my liking.
Previous experiences, HD238, HD555, HD595, HD280 Pro. The 595's were the closest thing to be a forward headphone.
I finally pulled the trigger for these. My initial impression was the earpieces will fall off. They are a bit loose, but trust me they are firmly fastened. I really liked the cord. Not because it's the greatest sounding cord, but it's flat and very durable.

Now for the sound. I really like the sound of these. They are sooooo much more forward than a typical Senn sound. The highs are nice and crisp with a good deal of detail.

Mids are very strong. They really shine bright and voices sound more realistic. When I put them side by side with my ES7, the Senn's sounded much more natural. As if I was listening to someone talking to my face and not through a headphone. These are great headphones for instrumental rock. Satch Boogie baby!

Bass - I really like the bass on these cans. I did list them as a con, because the bass is very tight and very detailed but lacks a good deal of ooomph. Again, when I put my ES7 on, the bass hits with much more authority. So if you like sub woofer type sound, you might look elsewhere. That said, the bass is pretty solid and like I said is detailed. Just not enough for my taste.

The soundstage is also very narrow with these. Perhaps not the best for orchestra type music or live music that is recorded with a really wide depth of field. You won't get the experience you're looking for. The lack of soundstage perhaps is what makes these Senns more up front and personal. Definitely over any other Senn I have owned. Granted, they are not open back cans either. But I find them more upfront than my HD280 Pro.

They will do just fine out of a portable player, but a small amp will really give you the detail you would want. As for comfort, I listened to these for many, many hours on end when I first got them. I had several plane rides the day after I got them and they are very comfy in deed.

Oh and I should mention, for an on ear headphone, they do a GREAT job blocking sound. Would have never guessed that one because the earcup is pretty small. Not much bigger than the 238.

Anyone who likes a small durable headphone with really nice detail should grab these up. As long as you don't like the feel the air of the sub bass hit your eardrum, you'll be fine.

Great multi-purpose isolation

Posted by npapero from Lincoln, NE on 2010-01-17
Posted on Sennheiser HD 25-1-II

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Blocks outside noise, good quality
Cons: Uncomfortable for long periods

I needed to have headphones to concentrate at work, and my Grados, though comfortable and have good sound, have too much leak so my coworkers could also hear my music and think I must have it cranked up. These have virtually no leak, so they work great in this situation, though not as comfortable as the Grados. After an hour my ears feel a little squished. Besides that I like everything about these, and I use them on my computer and with my iPod, the jack at the right angle keeps it from popping out when I'm active or on the bus. Excellent bus headphones, they block out the rabble and don't require a lot of effort to get on the ear. I've had the lower end Sennheisers but these seem like they are going to last longer, the fold-up ones I had quit working after about a year.

The best active headphones

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: You can't shake them off
Cons: better sound can be found

Most of you aren't professional DJs. But if you like to dance with your headphones one, or want some decent sound while you're working out, these are the cans for you.

While they're not up to the sound quality of some other $200 headphones, Sennheiser is a great brand and always deliver.

Very nice DJ headphone

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: isolation, design, durability
Cons: slightly overpriced, short cable

I auditioned this headphone. One of the best sealed supra-aural cans in the price range. The sound isolation is pretty good, but it's not totally 100% soundproof. It's quite comfortable. In fact, you can (and should) buy the velour pads straight from Sennheiser's website (~$15). Highly recommended.

VERY good build quality. And almost all the parts are replaceable.

The sound is balanced, precise, and natural. Very detailed so don't use low quality music files. Easily powered by mobile devices.

Great headphone again, Sennheiser!

Great portable cans

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Very durable, strong bass, excelent isolation
Cons: Little soundspace, less comfort

I had these for about half a year and i was very pleased with its great sound quality, which i did not expect from dj phones. The music is very accured and detailed with deep and extended bass a bit. There is some compromises but for portable use i do not know better choice. The isolation is fantastic for earpad construction and they fit very well on the head. No worry to go jogging with them! Nice!
