Best wireless headphones i've owned
Posted by miggty from southwest FL on 2011-11-04Posted on Sennheiser RS 170
Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: clear sound, surround sound, comfortable, look cool
Cons: can pull hair out sometimes, ears get hot with extended use
If your looking for a good wireless set of headphones these are for you. The rs 170 has the most clear interference free audio that i have ever heard in a wireless set. You can get up to about 45 feet away from these before they lose the signal. They also sound very good which is a bonus because most wireless sets sound like garbage if u get 5 feet away from the dock transmitter. They have a long charging life, last more than 8 hours. They were well worth the money and i would buy them agian.

Solid performance

Pros: high quality sound, good transmitter range, highly reliable reception
Cons: None
I challenged HeadRoom to sell me a really good wireless headphone I cannot complain about. Well.... they delivered the goods, and I have ceased my seemingly endless search for the best wireless headphones at a reasonable price.
My wife and both use wireless headphones and own several made by Sennheiser, JVC, Phillips, Koss, and other brands. The RS-160 headphones utilize a superior digitized RF signal, providing good sound quality and unsurpassed transmission range and signal reliability. These RS-170 headphones are not quite the sonic equal of my ATH-M-50 or AKG K-240 headphones, but considering you are paying for the transmitter, the receiver, and battery charging circuits, and the extra hardware associated therewith, the sound quality measures up to the cost.
They are the sonic equal of the less costly RS-160 headphones (which we also own), but have a greater transmitting range and include additional features such as surround sound, selectable enhanced bass circuitry, and a convenient recharging stand. I think the charging stand and greater transmission range justify springing for this slightly more expensive model.
These wireless headphones sound clear, bright, and fairly well balanced across the audible frequency spectrum, and are a obvious improvement over previous Sennheiser wireless headphones.
One very cool feature is the RS-170 headphones work with the RS-160 and RS-180 transmitters, and vice versa. This means you can buy multiple sets and activate more than one sound source for all headphones. My wife and I leave one transmitter on the stereo system for music, and another on the computer to listen to old time radio programs streaming audio on the internet. That obviates moving the transmitter between sound sources whenever one wants to change sound sources. Very cool, indeed. (You can do this with older Sennheiser headphones, also.)
The most important advantage is the superior transmission range and signal reliability compared to any other headphones we have tried. Our other wireless headphones all use 900MHz RF (radio frequency) signals, and suffer from much shorter effective transmitter range, and are plagued by aggravating drop-outs and annoying hiss from RF/EM interference as we move about the premises. These headphones use a digitized RF signal and have a far greater transmission range, with far greater resistance to signal drop-outs and are free from RFI and EMI (i.e., radio frequency and electromagnetic interference.) Now, we roam all over the house while listening to our favorite music and radio programs. The RS-170 transmitter covers the while house (a 40x60 foot two story home) with no problems.
Bravo ! - While these wireless headphones are a bit pricey compared to the alternatives - they are well worth it, and the price is quite reasonable considering the improved performance they provide. I have finally ended my long search for good sounding, highly reliable, consistent wireless headphones.
That is MY take, anyway.... James R in Michigan.

Incredible sound

Cons:
This pair of headphones surprised me. The headphones are comfortable to wear for a couple hours. The surround feature was nice and the bass boost really gave this pair some very good bass. I use the pair for watching movies and they held up very well on the most challenging scenes. Sound was crystal clear all over my house.
The only small gripe would be more user friendly buttons on the headphones.

Amazing sound

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Great sound, amazing range
Cons: Slightly uncomfortable
Beautiful design, simple and elegant. Easily the best wireless headphones I have ever heard. Clear, deep, good definition. I can switch them on and move about the whole house (3 storeys) without the slightest interference or cut-out. I only have two issues with these. 1) The headband is not the most comfortable I have ever seen from Sennheiser. I always feel its presence. 2) The earpads have a strange shape (a kind of triangular opening). They do not suit me as well as more oval hearpads. Try before you buy.
On the service front, I was amazed. These made it from Montana to QC in 48 hours, just before Xmas.
