Awesome gaming headphones !

Cons: Can feel a bit "too tight" on the head after one or two hours of use...
Well, I purchased this headset some months ago and I can truly tell you that the sound quality is the best you can get at this price range (to be honest, Beyerdynamic has some exact same models without the microphone for about three times the price...).
So, pure audiophiles : don't hesitate, you have there REALLY good headphones.
For gamers, this headset is just awesome. It has to be used (I'm a PC and PS3 owner only) with the provided "USB sound card" though, otherwise your integrated sound card input/output (for computers) won't provide you the best sound quality, lacking of power...
So, plug the provided USB sound card and plug the "heaset" on it, "et voilà", you got it !
For PS3 users, you should be "angry" at the start because it's considered as a "headset" and thus the PS3 acts as it was one : only the "voice chat" sound is directed through the headphones, the game sound is using the regular sound output (most of the time, your speakers).
Don't panic ! You just can configure this ! Go to "settings => Accessories => USB microphone" and set it to go through your regular output device.
Now, go to your settings => audio and set your output to your USB device and that's it, you got everything routed through your headphones.
Note : for the best experience and the most exigent users, use it combined with a "astro Mixamp pro" (or some equivalent device) and you'll have the ultimate gaming headset. It will provide you with a direct access to the volume via a giant knob plus you can mix an external source like a mp3 player alongside the game sound, plus use your PS3 digital optical sound output for best quality... very handy =)
Pros :
- sound quality (really accurate mid/high tones, deep basses, studio quality sound)
- microphone quality (ultra clear voice)
- durability (seems solid)
- design (I got the "gray" ear cushions + "carbon style" version and it looks awesome =)
Cons :
- can feel a bit "too tight" after one or two consecutive hours of use

(Once again, I forgot that these reviews remove returns. I will double dash -- where paragraph breaks should be to help isolate my comments. I wish they'd fix that.)
I've had these a good while now and feel I am qualified to speak to the MMX 300 strengths and weaknesses.
-- I was tired of $50 headsets that made my ears hurt by sitting on them or being too shrill or just plain too loud in a very narrow band. I'd learned the benefits of clean amplification, even with inexpensive headphones and was tired of mics that either made me sound like a little girl or worse, only picked me up when I was screaming.
-- After spending a lot of time researching, I realized that not only could I use them for gaming but I could use them at work. Given the sealed cups, there is good isolation from general noise - and it also helps keep my music inside my head where it belongs. Sometimes other people's leakage can be annoying. So you would be right thinking that I wear these for hours at a time. I spend even more time with them on when I game over the weekend, the velour earpads are amazing. Neither cold nor hot. Not slick or sweaty they really fell good and continue to look as good as the day they came.
-- I looked for a relatively flat frequency response over a wide range to ensure that I thought I was getting a fair representation of what the audio should sound like. Do you know what the one audio problem I found was? Source. I found many motherboards have horrible isolation issues and these darned headphones showed me just how bad it can be. On some PCs I could actually hear the mice on nearby USB ports and on my desktop at home with Intel's HD Audio, there is just a slight ring that gets picked up and it is annoying. It all comes down to source - and I don't blame the headphones for it, it is just that they let me hear it where other headphones don't.
-- The included USB adapter is good and sounds clean. It's not your cheapo $10 USB "sound card" that just wraps a stock chip with whatever audio components they could get today. It's properly engineered to sound decent. It has only two flaws. Input is monaural so it's not a line-in replacement and output just really doesn't have the power to do these headphones justice.
-- Solution: a Total Bithead.
-- This solved all my signal quality issues I had with onboard audio (hoping that the promise of 192kbit audio really was there - it's not.) and power. It works with every machine I hooked it up to and flexible power options means I could use any USB port as a power jack to listen to my iPod. Even though the dac doesn't have fantastic numbers, the whole unit sounds great plugged into anything with these headphones.
-- Yes, that does change the pricing a bit but honestly, if you're going to spend this much on headphones buy a decent source to drive them with.
-- These things sound so good the guys at work would steal them if they weren't so distinctive looking. That is not really a good thing. They just haven't got much style and they look a bit dated. But put them on and "who cares" what they look like when they sound this good.
-- The only headphones I would listen to before these are my DT990s.

Cons: average sound, heavy, ears sweat
I hooked these cans up to my x-fi titanium sound card and they sound no better than a 50 dollar pair of phones. Sound is ok but not worth 400 bucks for sure. They are heavy and make my ears sweat.
It said on their website ( Beyerdynamic site ) that they were supposed to be high quality for music and gaming. Maybe for gaming but definately not music.
I'll continue to write this honest opinion i have of them until Amazon and the Recording store give me a refund. But that's a whole other story :/
