Good Closed Headphones
Posted by Mishalex from New York, NY on 2011-10-05Posted on AKG K 272 HD
Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Detailed, clean and enjoyable sound quality
Cons: Bass response is a little subdued; pricey
Having now listened to many more headphone types, I am compelled to re-evaluate this headphone. While it is a very nice, clean, slightly warm-sounding headphone, excellent for classical and jazz music, the bass is a little lacking in authority, and the upper treble register can show a little distortion at higher volumes and with certain tracks. Overall, the headphone is very good, and I would give it a higher rating, were it not for AKGs recent release of the k550s. Basically, the k550s blow these out of the water in almost every aspect (except maybe comfort, where they are both about equal). Therefore, since they are the same price, I would steer more people towards the K550, unless you prefer a headphone equalized for a lower volume bass response (as opposed to a more neutral flat-sound). In that case, I would recommend the k271 mkii, which is the same headphone as these, but with a detachable cable, and two sets of earpads (velour and pleather) included.
