Koss KSC 75 Product Reviews

We've always loved the long-running Koss 'KSC' series; they simply sound astonishingly great for the money and the newest KSC-75 are one of the best clip-ons in the history of the headphone industry. Ideal 'ear-clip' fit designed for applications where a regular headband headphone just won't cut it like extra-active uses, gym and exercise work, or maybe it's just Mom not wanting to muss up her hair during commutes. These little open-back headphones won't fail to astound with an amazingly clear, rich-toned listening experience at a true bargain price.

Best bang for the buck

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, wonderful sound, portable, amazing value
Cons: Loose for aggressive exercise, sometimes falls off

I bought these to be the headphones to use:
1) with my Android
2) when I'm exercising
3) at work

For $20, the Koss KSC 75's are the best headphones I have ever bought. Great overall sound. Surprisingly punchy and full bass (after looking at the frequency response graph, I expected much less). These easily compare to some headphones I have owned that cost around $50.

They sound great with my Android (HTC J Butterfly), whether playing games, listening to music, talk shows, etc. Very easy to carry with my phone and very comfortable to wear. They perform well in a wide range of situations. The HTC J Butterfly has the built in Beats Audio amp and it works well with these headphones.

For exercise, they do good a job of staying on for most exercises and are light/comfortable. However, if you are going to be training aggressively they will sometimes fall off. I have no problems keeping them on when I jog at a moderate pace but if I decide to sprint, one of them will sometimes fall off.

For work, they are great too. I can listen to them for extending periods of time with no problem as they are light and comfortable. However there is zero sound insulation and some sound leakage so if you are sitting very close to your co-workers and/or looking for headphones that will cut out background noise to help you focus, you should look elsewhere.

Overall, I definitely recommend these headphones.

Pros: Clean articulate sound
Cons: None, unless you can't do clips

At $40 these things are way ahead of their league, boasting clear artivulate sound reminicent of a pair of Koss Porta Pro headphones I owned in the 1980's. Those things were worth every penny of their asking price of $50 until they finally broke after hundreds of hours of listening while I was overseas in the Navy. They provided a mental health elixer for that time in my life.
Back to this review. Not expecting much from their asking price I expected sound like the Skullcandy Inked earbuds at a similar price, but comparinng the two these have a much more forward detialed almost electrostatic sound. Highs are a little etched, but still would be considered fantastic by any measure under $80. Trying to compare the sound to decent speakers of yore that I would be proud to own in listining space would be like a Athena, Polk or PSB smaller more affordable designs maybe even entry efforts from Martin Login(but not as laid back as the Logins would be), but still holds its own with the bass line, just very detialed, even though they will not go low like a Beats pro....much more accurate involving sound. Feed it a good clean source it will be reveal quite a bit, but forgiving enough for lesser recordings.
I feel this would be a great phone to try the world of world class listening when you have a minimal investment, compare the the sound to like a lower end Sennheiser can which are amazing in their own right, I have a pair of HD 428, that the lovely wife comendered, which have a slightly more laid back warm rounded sound, while these will give you a more open detailed airy sound. Not as sensitive as other some in-ear type phones, but still will play plenty loud with an I-pod, smartphone. If you need it louder than this....find a moshpit... All and all astonishing at double the price, and a great entry into the world of fine listening. Anyone with just standerd issue earbuds...my condolances.

Pros: rich sound, lifetime waranty!
Cons: earclip design will take time to adjust to

Well as of Monday, I have my 4th pair of shorted-out Sennheisers (2 pairs of PX100's, a PX100-II, and HD595). I prefer open back sets for indoor use. I use Etymotic & Shures for commuting on trains & busses. I can't say I surprised that these Koss clip-on's sound so cool. Every review on the internet, including HeadRoom's says so. But still, after spending so much money on headphones over the years, I'm still shocked that I spent under 20 bucks for these. On top of that, they have a lifetime warranty!!! Why don't YOU do that, Sennheiser??? Calling these a value is an understatement. Now, honestly, these Koss KSC 75's aren't able to replace my HD595's, but they don't need to. These are great "entertainment" headphones; they're good for enjoying music, movies, and games. They are tuned as such with strong bass, but at least the highs aren't sacrificed for it. I'll probably end up getting in the habit of EQ'ing them to relax the bass and slightly bump the mids, but even with no EQ these Koss phones are the best bargain I've found yet. These will make EXCELLENT gifts, too!

Great little clips for the price

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Nice, affordable sound quality with a bit of presence
Cons: Clips detach from earpads; can easily be reattached though.

I don't know that I can really add anything to what others have already said about these. They are great little clip-on headphones for on-the-go or active users, and they don't sound too bad either, especially considering their low price. The only downside is that they don't isolate at all and leak sound, but at for $20.00, I can't really complain. Definitely recommended. Note that if you have larger ears, you might need to stretch the metal clips a bit before they will fit comfortably and that in so doing, the clips might come off. Fear not though, as they will easily snap back in place.

Can't do better for the price and function

Posted by Remo from whereever on 2011-09-15
Posted on Koss KSC 75

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Sound (for price), convenience, sharp looks
Cons: Clips are annoying, but a necessary evil

Sound: Surprising good sound for clips. Better than my old Sennheiser P100s (which always sounded a little muddy in the midrange). However, not quite up to my grado 60s, but hey, you can use them in the gym!! And they r way better than most cheap headphones. I also like the open cans -- let's me hear my kids when I wander aimlessly around the house cleaning up after them.

As an aside, most clips tend not to sound too great because they don't get a good fit on the ears. However, these hold quite tight. The speakers r good, too. Which why the sound is such a surprise.

As a second aside, they do let in outside noise, so you have to turn them up at the gym because of the ambient background. I've used "in ear" plugs in the past. They keep the sound out, but the plugs started irritating my ear canal.

Comfort: Not as comfy as a regular headband. But the lightweight and excellent earpads help make up for being clips. They are more difficult to get on then regular headbands

Looks: Cool -- Feel, see above.

Yet another shorted out speaker

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Over ear design, cheap price
Cons: Cheap wiring, get caught on EVERYTHING

My doctor told me to stop wearing in-ear headphones so I've tried many different pairs of on-ear. I have now gone through TWO pairs of KOSS 75s and both have broken due to wire connection failure. I like the on-ear design and the sound quality was fine however the ear "hooks" get caught/tangled on everything...clothing, desktop stuff, in my briefcase, their own wires, etc.

I knew pretty quickly that the speaker wires would fail from me tugging on them as they get caught on something. Both pairs I've had lasted about four months before breaking. The KOSS 75s are more hassle than they are worth so I am going back to ear buds.

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Perfect sounds
Cons: Ear clip

So I have gone around online to search for a perfect pair of headphones. I stopped by this site and saw that they recommend me this koss. At first, I didn't pay attention. I was thinking that such a headphones have high rating to it cheap price of $20.00 . I was looking for something more than $100. It took me about a year to look around for all headphones including the recommended sennheiser, shure. I didn't try the grado and all but came accros Bose tripod and Mie2, and BEATS by dr dre. Finally, I couldn't be satisfied. I was like, what the hell, I would give this 20.00$ headphones a try. It came in the mail today. I was blown away by it performance....I can not believe how good it is compare to those 100-300$ headphones.

The bass is so clean and non distorded, and very realistic.
The mid are clean and there .... And I am listening to flat line eq
The high is crisp and very clear, but not brutally clear as to blow your ears out.

Surround sound.....exactly as the song was recorded.....left to right.....and right to left....

After listening to this, I was telling myself "why are there even expensive headphones existed for 100-300$ at all......???". With 200 you can have 10 of these, and your heart will be pounding listening to it....jeez....I am serious.....give it a try.

Now the bad.....ear clips. They are almost immovable, so you will have to be careful to put it on. Otherwise you will definitely break it.

Conclusion: it put me at shame to think of expensive brands and such are at better quality. I should have researched more before going around looking for a pair of headphones......now I am in love. I will buy a few more pairs to save, just incase Koss realize how good this is, and ripping people off.....like others.....or incase it is discontinued .....and I can not buy it back when this pair is broken......

Please do your ears a favor , and buy this set if your budget is within $300.00 your ears will appreciate you.....

Best sounding portable headphones for price, bar none

Posted by William from Kansas on 2010-10-24
Posted on Koss KSC 75

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Clear and sharp sound, lightweight, portability, lifetime warranty
Cons: Cord shorts out easily, possible discomfort for big ears

These headphones are one of a kind in their price range. Good, clear, surprisingly full sound for their size. Highs are razor sharp if not a bit intense, especially with synth based music. Bass is tight and just adequate, but nevertheless good for the size of the small drivers. These headphones are made for portability, and do well for that being very lightweight.

The only notable drawbacks are flimsiness of the small cord, and maybe a little discomfort if you have big ears. After a while, the clips that hold the headphones on your ears may start to come undone easily. I have already gone through 3 pairs in about 2 years because the cords keep shorting out. Luckily, Koss has a 'no questions asked" lifetime warranty.

Overall, this is an outstanding product from the American based Koss Corporation. John C. Koss should be proud.

Update: The titanium elements in these headphones are very sensitive. For the first few weeks that you listen to them, try not to crank them up too much but listen to them just loud enough so you can't hear an outside conversation. They should be able to handle higher volumes after this, and you can enjoy greater musicality. If you start cranking them immediately, you risk losing the magic of these wonderful drivers and they will rattle much sooner.

Pros: Cheap, surprising sound quality, mobility
Cons: Comfort is hit and miss, ugly, often annoying to put on

To be able to get this level of sound quality on a pair of headphones at this price and with this level of mobility is astounding. They can't match up to a more expensive set of closed headphones, but that's not what they are designed to do. They are meant to offer you a decent level of sound quality on the move, which is precisely what they do.

Pros: Cheap, Good Sound, Very Mobile
Cons: Quiet, Outside sound gets in

I was torn between these and the Sennheiser PMX-60's, so I bought them both. And for $20 cheaper, the KSC75's win! Although I found the PMX's slightly more comfortable with a louder driver, the Koss's are definitely smoother-sounding and less fatiguing.

Warning: there are very forward-sounding without EQ, and I have to use the Bass Boost setting on my iphone to get the sound I like, so I would not recommend these to an enthusiast who does not have any EQ options on their player.

But all in all, absolutely amazing for the price and a great choice for day-to-day beaters!

Pros: Ridiculously cheap, but good sound!
Cons: A tad ugly, not terribly sturdy

I bought a pair of these a while back, but they didn't hold up to my handling of portable phones, which is apparantly not overly gentle. I moved on. (Also: The cord gets tangled up like you wouldn't believe.)

But for the price, they sounded so darn good, that I got a pair to use at my desk at work. It's a pretty quiet work environment, so I don't need closed phones, and I wasn't interested in shelling out a lot of money for another set of phones. I'm very pleased. They sound a bit too "crisp" perhaps, and aren't the most detailed sounding phones - but, c'mon, for 20 bucks or so I've never heard better, not even close.

They look a little weird, and may need to be adjusted a bit to fit well (the clips are bendable!).

Pros: affordable, easy on and off action
Cons: cord is kind of short

I enjoy these headphones because they are thin and don't weigh down the ears like many other clip ons can do. I wear them in my office and often only listen to audio on one ear. If I had traditional style headphones, this wouldn't be possible.

bass response and tone is right in the center--not on the heavy side like another pair of koss cans I own.

Great office 'phones

Posted by StratCat from Cuernavaca, Mexico on 2010-02-12
Posted on Koss KSC 75

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Price, sound quality, lifetime guarantee
Cons: None that I can think of

In my quest for a set of good headphones to use at the office I went through many, many types: IEM's, earbuds, well, I even wore Grado SR-80s (don't try it) !! Then I read the raving reviews about this headphones and decided to give them a try, I mean, for the price, what could I loose?

Well, I must say these, as other reviewers have said, could certainly be the best bang for your buck purchase in the entire headphone market. The sound quality is great with sparkling highs, powerfull bass and good, if slightly recessed, mids. I find the bass much more controlled than in their famous siblings, the PortaPros.

Also these go along very well with a CMoy headphone amp. Their sound will only improve slightly, but I feel these are just a tad stiff when connected directly to an iPod/laptop/portable CD player headphone out, so the amp will drive the cans a bit better, with more dynamics. I clearly remember trying them at home with my cheap Sony portable CD player, and my homebrew CMoy and ... well just having a BALL with the music!

On the commfort side of things, the clips are very comfortable, being covered in soft plastic, and the fact that they're made of wire, allows you to bend them slightly to better suit you. I've yet to experience ear/head soreness while wearing these.

Finally, in my opinion they make great office headphones. For starters, they don't have a headband, so you don't have to worry about your hair. Secondly, the wire clips are bent to accomodate your ears better, and they become a breeze to snap on-off, great for taking calls, tending to people, etc. Thirdly they're so cheap that they're a breeze to replace if the guy in the next cubicle decides he/she wants your cans.

In fact, they're so good for the office, that I'm already on my fourth pair, since my workmates keep purchasing my current set after noticing them and trying them !!

Pros:
Cons:

These are great sounding little headphones, with alot of sparkle on the top-end, and tremendous clarity throughout. Given the price, they are a no-brainer, and no household should be without a pair. The only complaint I have about them is the clip-on style. Personally, I have never been able to get totally comfortable with the fit -- I always feel that they are in danger of falling off. That is, they have always felt a little awkward to me. But if you know you like the clip-on style, you will have zero issues with these. For the sound, and the money, there is really no way to go wrong anyway.

Pros: surprisingly good
Cons: fiddly to put on

A friend of mine has these and swears by them. I have a Sennheiser PX 100 so I don't need these: the headband is not an issue. They sound amazing at this price, and if you've only ever heard the stock apple ipod buds or other stock lower quality headphones, you will be astonished. I had trouble getting the hang of putting them on, but I imagine with practice I would develop some skill. I much prefer the sound of an earpad style like this to most in-ear headphones, even far more expensive ones.

Best gateway into headphones

Posted by Asr from CO on 2010-01-27
Posted on Koss KSC 75

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Price, sound quality, portability
Cons: Aesthetics & durability

Toss the throwaway headphones that came with your digital audio player and get the KSC75 instead - for a mere $20 the KSC75 is THE best gateway into good-sounding headphones period! You can easily use these out of any portable player and in fact they work great for exercise too, indoor or outdoor. Of course there are plenty of headphones that sound better than the KSC75 (most of them a lot more expensive), but for the price there are no complaints - this has ample bass, mid-range, and treble to properly convey just about any type of music from electronica to industrial/metal to classical to jazz, et al. While there are certainly some sonic drawbacks to these, I think to address any of them for a $20 clip-on would be overly picky. If you're looking at these, price is probably the bigger concern over sound quality anyway, and this is about as cheap as it gets without devolving into something that'd be awful-sounding.

The only real drawbacks to the KSC75 are the retro aesthetics that make it look clunky, and it's not the most durable clip-on either - the clips can fall off and the cheap plastic housing could be an issue if you throw these into a bag where hard objects might impact it.

No need to think twice about buying these if you're looking for a prime portable headphone though - they're the most economical solution available and they sound good too, what else do you need?

Best cheap headphones

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: CHEAP
Cons: not the best sounding

These headphones give you a lot of bang for your buck. For being so cheap these headphones really stand out and work well. The design is utterly perfect because you can adjust the clip to fit your ear with the thin metal bar. I tend to have them a bit tight fitting on my ear because if I move a lot I do not want to have to keep moving them back onto my ears or possible fall right off. Only problem is that the clips come right off and although this is generally great (replacement clips can be bought directly from koss) it also causes a lot of accidental snapping off of the clips while you are trying to put them on your ears. The sound quality is not the greatest but for the price I think you know what you are getting into and believe me they stand up to other cheap headphones just fine. Just get these. If you are buying some other headphones from this site you might as well dish out a few more bucks for a cool little pair of clip ons. Definitely worth it.

Pros: Great sound, practical, inexpensive
Cons: Clips snap off ocassionally

I love these for portable use. In my opinion clip-ons are the best portable headphone. They take the best characteristics of earbuds (compact, won't mess with your hair) and on-ear headphones (sound, comfort). The sound quality is not just good enough but excellent for an inexpensive portable headphone. Rich bass and very clean sound across the spectrum. My only gripe is that the clips pop off the headphone when taking them out of a bag and I have to snap them back on.

Possibly The Best Value in Headphones

Posted by reydequeso from OH on 2010-01-24
Posted on Koss KSC 75

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Incredible value, portable, comfortable, lifetime warranty
Cons: A lot harder to put on than simple earbuds, open

Need portable phones for an iPod or Sansa Clip? Hate headbands with a burning passion? Don't care about a little sound leakage? Happen to have $20 in stolen lunch money wasting away on your dresser? Look no further than this surprise from Koss.

The sound is surprisingly good for $20. The highs are clear and detailed if a little hollow-sounding, the mids are worth twice the price, the bass is loud but not overbearing and detailed enough. It won't turn heads on a listen alone, but when paired with the price tag jaws will drop.

Very light and small, too. They can be a tight fit for some pants pockets, but are a perfect pair with a laptop bag, player carrying case, or backpack. Do you wear cargo pants? Then you were made for these. Some rumors have circulated about their durability, especially the clips. Mine have been in and out of my pockets for half a year now and I've had no problems. One clip did come off during a particularly aggressive adjustment session, but it snapped right back in. And for $6 you can get a replacement shipped from Koss. For the rest of your life.

Comfort, once the obligatory adjustment session is completed, is great. They're light enough that even the frailest ears will have no trouble holding them up. The pads are thin and not too soft, but they don't move around on the ear enough to be a bother. Getting them on can be a timely process with a player in one hand and books in another, but once on they're on for good.

Customizable, too. There are tons of DIY modifications that can bring these out more. Cut a hole in the middle of the pad, drill extra holes in the grill below, mount them on a headband if you're into that sort of thing, etc. Experiment. It's only $20. If you royally screw them up, $6 can net you another.

Pros: Excellent sound for money, lifetime guarantee
Cons: Strain reliefs would be most welcome

I was surprised at how much better these sound than ALL the other cheap headphones I've purchased. Some may not like the clip-on style here. I use these while sleeping, and I find them much more comfortable against my head while lying in bed than the others I've tried. If Koss started putting better strain reliefs on the end of the cords, by the drivers, longevity would be increased significantly. Nevertheless, the lifetime guarantee can't be beat. I just returned a pair, and received a replacement today. A minor quibble is that the two cords do become tangled frequently and easily. Overall, though, exceptional value for the money.

A legendary headphone

Posted by Jam from Australia on 2010-01-15

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Amazing sound, replacable cable, unbelievable value
Cons: Can get uncomfortable, clips fall off easily

For a $20 headphone, I've not heard another headphone under $100 sound anywhere near the quality of these unsuspecting headphones.

The sound is very fun and engaging, with a round, deep bass and crisp, detailed treble. You can listen to any sort of music through these headphones and you will not be able to get the smile off your face.

These headphones are great for home and on the go, and the sports clips stay secure during the most vigorous activity. Fantastic for running or bike riding! They will leak sound like a mini speaker, so not the best choice for the office, and the clips may interfere with thicker glasses frames.

The clips like to fall off in your bag, and the cable is hard to wrap up without making it a tangled mess, but there isn't much more than that to complain about. The cable is easy to replace due to the backs being easy to pull off, and comfort is pretty good.

For $20, you can't go wrong! Easily beats hundreds of other similarly priced headphones!

Not much to say. If you don't have them, buy them. They are completely open, which is why I use them for running. It costs 6 USD to repair by Koss (shipping). They look a little bit dorky, but at least you are getting good sound. One of the best values for headphones around. Durability is mediocre. Can be worn for hours and is adjustable. The foam pads are replaceable. Sound quality: great for the price, little soundstage, and warm. A great upgrade from those Apple buds.
