Best Earphone I have ever tried

Posted by Craneywater from Toronto, Ontario on 2010-06-22

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Impressive lows, soundstage, and mids
Cons: Not natural sound representation

Shure E530 headphones do produce smooth and clean sound. There one can hear impressive lows, surprisingly big sound soundstage for those little audio pieces and really smooth highs.

ONLY ONE THING ONE CANNOT HEAR WHILE LISTENING TO SHURE 530 IS NATURAL SOUND.

There is no sharpness in terms of separation, no energizing punch. I have headphones for less price which can beat Shure 530 in sound quality. Sennheiser HD265 Linear: beat them in terms of bass and soundstage. Grado SR325is beat them in terms of accuracy, separation, soundstage, bass, and overall sound representation.
I would strongly suggest Shure 530 mainly to musicians and singers but not to the serious audophiles.

If you want to enjoy truly natural sound, use headphones with non-plastic housing, or simply use speakers.
Enclosed sound in canal earphones never has enough space to fully express itself. Don't just hear sound, feel it. Shure 530 earphones cannot provide that kind of experience.

These things are perfect -

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Size - music quality - noise reduction
Cons: Hummm..... I am still trying to find one...They need some time to break in.

In mid 1980's I was at "The Light House" in Hermosa Beach. I have that night on a CD, Stan Getz. If I close my eyes the music is so prefect that I am there again. They do take some time to break in, so many of the people here who tried them may not have given them a fair shake. I also use mine with a Zune, that has better music quality that an iPOD.

Tried them all - bought these. Yes, the best is expensive.

Simply Amazing

Posted by MaverickRonin from Midwest, USA on 2010-05-06

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Smooth mids, Deep bass, Incredible detail
Cons: Cables may not be the most durable

Amazing detail, incredibly smooth mids, and deep bass are these 'phones defining characteristics. The only real weakness might be the slightly rolled off highs, but it's not a huge deal. I find it makes them less fatiguing. Also the bass while deep, is flat all the way down to DC and not over emphasized. To some people this is a feature, to others it's a bug, ultimately it just comes down to preferences.

I don't have the huge breadth of knowledge and experience needed to compare these to others in the same price range but I can say that if you like the the Shure 'house sound', then you'll love these. I've had, Shure E2cs, heard E3cs, and these can be described as the same, but better.

I was also pleasantly surprised to find out how much better they sound amped. My BitHead, which I bought just to bypass crappy onboard sound, gives them much better bass, just for starters. They certainly don't sound bad without dedicated amplification though. I used them daily for 8 months unamped, and never felt like they were missing anything.

A major concern with these 'phones are the cables. The materials seem to have changed since the early days of 'only lasted a week' horror stories, though they are still not replaceable without electronic microsurgery. They have a 2 year warranty if, and only if, you have a receipt from an authorized dealer. Shure replaced mine, no questions asked, after one side went very, very soft. I don't think it was actually the cable though, because no amount of fiddling would yield a temporary fix.

A good product, but not the type of sound I was looking for

Posted by BarryL from New York on 2010-02-15

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: better than SE310s
Cons: expensive

These sounded very high-quality, although it was not the type of sound I was looking for. They sound very smooth and well-balanced, but not accurate enough for me. These will make your music sound good, although it might not sound like what is actually on the CD. I returned them, because they distorted the original sound of my music too much, albeit distorted in an enjoyable and very smooth sort of way.

They're also very expensive, but I think that most people would be happy with the sound of them, especially for popular types of music. But I was looking for more detail, more accuracy, and these sounded slightly muffled to me: like a player with the EQ overdone.

I recommend these with reservations, for the people that will like the type of sound it imparts to your music.

Best in ear set ... so far

Posted by DrakeBullet from Los Gatos, California on 2010-02-13

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Superb sound, durable
Cons: Clip for wire could be more sturdy

I've had these almost two years and I listen regularly - in the gym, on airplanes, at home when I want great music and have to compete with kids TV, etc. I have a pair of Ety 4 and Ultimate Ears UEPro5 and the SE530 are far superior. Next to my AKG701, the SE530 are the best sound in my head. Full custom would be the next stop, but dont' think that cost delta is really worth the jump.

Suggestion - my ear canals are small and found that using the Eytmotic blue flanges fit very well and comfortable.

Great Headphones

Posted by Jeff from Israel on 2010-02-10
Posted on Shure SE530

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, brilliant sound
Cons: Not as good as ER-4s for sound isolation on a 'plane

These are the headphone I carry around all the time, something you just can't do to Sennheiser 650s... and they are the headphones I prefer to wear almost everywhere except in a quiet place because the sound is so good and the isolation often means that I hear the music rather than background noise.

However, whilst they are really good headphones, they are slightly bigger than my Etymotic ER4 to carry and wear. They are also over the ear which some may not prefer. In my ears (big) the isolation in a plane is better with the ER4 with the same Comply tips or the 3 prong'ed ones. I was surprised by this but the isolation is still good enough.

A couple of things to note (Feb 2010). There is a new version slightly upgraded coming out soon, and at the cost today of $450 for the SE530 I'd say they are average value, but at the earlier prices then it is very good value.

Stunning

Posted by A HeadRoom Fan on 2010-01-28

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros:
Cons:

While I have not heard every universal IEM that is out there, this is regarded by many as the king of universal IEMs. As always with Shure, you know what you are getting in general terms before you purchase: clear and rich mids without any fatiguing or potentially fatiguing highs, decent but not overwhelming bass, and excellent fit and isolation. The Shure SE530 delivers spectacularly in all these areas, and adds an extra bit of bass, wider soundstage, and stunning looks. In many ways, I am jealous of those who start looking to replace their standard ibuds and jump directly to the SE530 without wasting time on lesser IEMs. Of course, if you were to opt for the SE310, and stop there, that would also be a wise choice, since those are also a phenomenal headphone. But if you want the best, go straight to the SE530.

Good, but there are better IEMs out there

Posted by VinnieVidi from NYC on 2010-01-25
Posted on Shure SE530

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Design, modular cable, strong clear mids
Cons: Recessed highs

The SE530 are one of the most comfortable IEMs I have ever owned: the aperture of the tube is not too large and the shell around the driver fits flush within your ear. I am not one for flashy bits hanging out of my ears, but I will admit that I did like the color of the metallic finish—it isn't as flashy as in the photos.

On to more important things: Sound

What I liked about the SE530 was its visceral impact—especially when using them for movies—whether out of my amp or straight from my MacBook Pro. As for music, they are excellent for listening to rock music, vocalists and acoustic jazz instruments.

What I did not like was its rolled-off highs. I think that this aspect of the sound signature made the SE530s a bit boring when compared to the Sennheiser IE7 and IE8 (which I find to be similar to the SE530 in all regards but with deeper bass and more accentuated highs). The highs are clear, just under pronounced. This is very apparent when listening to classical music, where the lack of presence in the highs muted much of the airiness around the instruments. As I listen mainly to classical, this was a deal breaker for me.

The SE530's price point puts them out of contention for most people's impulse purchasing, so buying from HeadRoom—with their return policy—is a great way to try them for your self.

Perfect for movies

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Well balanced, very good bass, good isolation
Cons: Main cord too short

I loves these for the isolation, I use the black foam, and they are perfect. The bass is amazing out of these little things and they are awesome for movies because the voices are always perfecetly clear and the provided inline volume control is great for the quiet/loud scenes movies always have. They are great for music as well but these are my main movies headphones.

Worth Every Penny

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Confortable, Excellent Sound, Good Value,
Cons: None

I have had the Shure SE530 In-Ear Monitors for almost a year and I cannot be more happy with them. They have excellent sound quality across the entire frequency range and are very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. They also provide great passive noise cancellation and let the listener really enjoy the music. If they have one con, it's that the wires may short out or break over time (especially the included volume attenuator). Luckily they have a two year warranty and Shure offers excellent customer support.

Outstanding

Posted by WillDaddy from Seattle on 2010-01-16

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Mates with any source, good bass, natural midrange
Cons: Odd cord design & ergonomics

I bought these as a replacement for Etymotic ER4-P's and have never looked back. These SE530's sound great right out of an iPod and get even better with a high-quality portable amp. They took about 10 hours to burn in and have sounded fantastic ever since. They also seem to required little to no warm-up time, unlike the Ety's, which require about 45 minutes. The standard bud material compresses nicely and re-expands in your ear in just a few seconds for a good seal, though not as noise isolating as the Ety.

On the minus side, the 2-piece cord is dumb. The initial 18" section won't let you turn your head with iPod in shirt pocket. I also don't like using my ear as a cleat, which is what happens when you loop the cord over the back of your ear or they'll pop out of your ears from the weight of the connection at the 18" mark on the cord.

AMAZING! Almost the best I've heard!

Pros: Truly portable, triple driver, durable cable.
Cons: So small I feel I might crush them.

If IEMs are your thing, if a sweet, warm sound is your thing, look no further. First noticeable feature is that they have three drivers for each side. This means a powerful sound across all frequencies. They excel at soundtracks and classical scores. While they do sound good straight out of an iPod, if your music is recorded "louder" these puppies will begin to clip when things get complicated. Not to worry though. If your going to drop this amount of dough, a portable amp, (HeadRooms AirHead at $99.99) will bring out the most of you investment. When properly amped, I don't think the SE530s have any limitations. All the little things you usually don't hear come into clear focus, why, the isolation. These and other IEM seal inside you ear to create an oasis of musicality. The IEM will come with three sets of rubber flanges to get the best fit for your ear. When properly inserted, the 530s are free to do their thing, and for me, that was to melt my soul away. As musicians and audiophiles, we often talk about the "flow" of music in a system. If you don't understand what that means, the 530s will show you.

Best Headphones I Have Ever Used

Posted by Michael from Rockville, MD on 2010-01-15
Posted on Shure SE530

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Outstanding clarity throughout entire frequency range, effective isolation from outside noise
Cons: Took a little while to get used to wrapping the wire over my ears

These are far and away the best headphones I have ever used. They provide music that is rich, very clear, and well balanced from the bass right through to the top of the high frequency range. I listen without an equalizer, and the bass parts are well enounciated but not overpowering. Most notably, each instrument and vocal part has amazing timbre, as if you are standing right in front of the band or orchestra. The headphones are light and relatively sturdy and fit well into the ears. A variety of types and sizes of silicone and foam inserts should provide a nice fit for virtually all listeners. The earpieces do a good job of blocking outside noise. I had never worn headphones that inserted like these, with the wire from each earpiece looping over the ear. Once I got used to that configuration, I found it to be comfortable, and the earpieces stayed in well. This configuration also seems to minimize some of the noise that results from jostling of the wire.

In a nutshell, these headphones sound so great that, for the first time I find myself looking forward to coming home at night and shutting off the TV to listen to music. They are pricey, but definitely distinguish themselves from the less expensive headphones that I had been using.
