DJ's have rather demanding needs when it comes to headphones. After many decades in the professional audio business, no manufacturer understands the job better than Shure. Not only are the looks 100% club caliber, but the SRH-750DJ's closed-back, circumaural design rests comfortably over the ears and reduces background noise as demanded for long nights working the decks. The 750DJ features ultra high-impedance output and maximized power handling perfectly matched for use for DJ mixers, hot-rodded soundcards and turntables.

Best headphones in my collection so far!

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Great sound out of the box, Outstanding value, AMAZING sound at +200 hours!
Cons: Slightly bulky, small earcups

I'm an avid gamer, and I've gone from Headsets like the Turtle Beach DX-11's, to Astro A40s, to Sennheiser PC350s. Now, before you get skeptical, I've gone from headsets to headphones trying out the DT770 80 ohms, the ATH-A900x, the ATH-AD700s, and ATH-A700s...and then I found these SRH750DJs. Man, I could not recommend this enough not just for rock/jazz/metal and turntables but for GAMING. Whether combined with a dedicated soundcard, or an Astro Mixamp, the sound of these headphones really makes action games and FPS's come alive, and especially from a competitive gamer's standpoint, where you don't want overpowering bass (The bass on these headphones is phenomenally tight!). The level of detail in the soundstage is outstanding (the best in my collection), and the bass emphasizes rather than overpowers. There is nothing I would change about the way these cans sound for what I want. It's surprising how often I go out to tournaments and see kids using cheaply mass produced consumer headsets, and now I've got the most solid closed gaming cans I've ever owned around my ears. I've been recommending them to everyone. They sound great out of the box, and amazing after about 40 hours of burn in, but believe me when I say the price tag for these is worth it because I'm at about 200 hours of usage right now and these sound better and better. I can't give these headphones, or SHURE enough praise, but they've certainly made one gamer VERY happy. I can't wait for my total airhead amp to get here to further amp these babies!

Perfect for Rock, Pop, Dance, Electronica, Heavy Metal . . .!

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Durability; Fit-and-Finish; Comfort;
Cons: Bass emphasized (but balanced) = not a universal 'phone.

These 'phones are the most FUN set that I own - and they function precisely as advertised and as described by Shure and HeadRoom. I think they are well worth the money I invested when I got them from HeadRoom! For reproduction of mids and highs, they come close enough to my Shure SRH840s to qualify (IMHO) as producing commendable accuracy and detail. When it comes to the lows, the SRH750DJs do a wonderful job of "pumping up the bass" without rendering it muddy and without contaminating the accessibility of the mids and highs. This is clearly NOT a headphone for someone who listens primarily to classical/symphonic and vocal/acoustic music - and/or is looking for something to serve well for listening to a wide variety of music. However, it IS a superb choice if you enjoy rock, pop, dance, electronica, heavy metal, or anything else where the bass benefits from being brought to the fore without overwhelming the rest of what's going on in the music. I found that the SRH750DJs really came into their own with a solid state headphone amp. I used them with my HeadRoom Micro amp and they really ROCKED! Just for fun, I also tried them with my Fournier HTA-2 tube headphone amp (which makes my SRH840s bloom beautifully) and the result was rather tepid. I'm not a DJ, so I can't comment on whether the SRH750DJs would be a good choice for a working professional. For listening at home, however, they are an excellent choice - as long as you remember what they were designed for and you feed them appropriate source material through a fast and hearty amp. They are all-day comfortable, built to take a lot of (ab)use by a working DJ, and they look way cooler than my SRH840s or my Sony MDR-V6s . . . at least when I catch a glance of myself in the mirror! Your experience and tastes may be significantly different. When it comes to sound quality, however, it's hard for me to imagine that you would be disappointed. Enjoy!

Pros: Power Clarity
Cons:

I have had these phones for about a month. When I first tried them I was amazed at the sound, actually shocked. There was absolutely no bass coming out of them. The first hour I tried everything and it all sounded weak and light. From there over time the sound improved in the bass, slowly opening up the lower registers. Mids and Highs started to round into shape after weeks of listening. Makes me wonder about when those headroom measurements were taken.

Bass is not over powering at all and may appear too light for bass heavy freaks. It is the real low frequencies that are brought out in full bloom and clarity. I have never heard bass so relaxed and clean. I can't overload the bass frequencies no matter what I played. And all the while I can hear so clearly what is happening down there without any mud. Just play the most bass heavy track you have and you will hear it like never before. You will hear every note being played.

Sound greatly depends on the source as waves and flac recordings are expressed with way more depth and width than with lower bit mp3 recordings. Not that mp3 recordings are bad it's just that you can really hear where the corners have been cut in the compression process. Bluray Movies sound absolutely awesome.

Mids are right there with snares and claps clearly displayed. Highs are slightly rolled off in power but not frequencies, while remaining pristine in sound quality.
Size is great for me as I do not have a large head or big ears. the only problem coming from the top band across the head while wearing a hat. I love the fact the headphone covers my entire ear.

Overall unlimited power handling and clarity are things that impressed me the most.
You will wanna crank them although they sound great at low levels just because there is no distortion. If you are coming from cheap bass heavy head phones these will sound light and bass anemic as this is real bass being displayed here with massive power reserves. Not the mid bass bloat you are used to.

Great deal

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Deep bass, mids and highs sound great for DJ headphones. Soundstage is really good. Easily driven.
Cons: A bit uncomfortable. Pads can make your ears sweaty

I got these for 103€, which is less than most people get them for. It was my first pair of higher-end cans and I don't regret it. My biggest setbacks were all the complaints on how they were undomfortable.

Well, as far as comfort goes, it's not the best option. These do get flat on your head, and it might hurt a bit, but if you gently bend the headband a bit it's fixed. Also the pads are leather-is so they might make you ears sweaty, but that depends on the weather =) They look sturdy and ruable too.

The bass extends deeper than usual, and however the mids and highs don't fail to impress. The soundstage was better than expected, almost like an IEM. Isolation is good. For 140$ (probably what you'll get them for) it's a really great deal when it comes to sound.

These are probably not your best option on outdoor-headphones, but they should be one of your best if you enjoy a good bass without unemphasis on the rest of the sound spectrum, listen at home and don't have abnormally large or sweaty ears.

True DJ phones

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Great overall sound, detachable cable, good isolation, great price
Cons: Look weird on head, bad fit on the head, require amplifier

Shure SRH 750 DJ

I first started looking at this headphones for their apparently good looks and wide frequency range.

They had great reviews by people who used them on a daily basis with their mp3 / iphones and loved them both for their comfort and quality.

Day to Day
As for looks the headphones are huge, nothing like you may imagine by the pictures.
The head band becomes flat on top and press your head on top once you fit them, which is both uncomfortable overtime and look very unattractive if you intend to walk on the street.
The fact that they eat up to 3000mW restricts the quality on the iphone/mp3 leaving you better off with the normal 200mW headphones than with these.

I think the quality of the sound is great and so far one of the best i ever had on headphones with strong bass, they don't compromise the mids nor the highs that much, but you will feel these aren't really suited for listening to rock n roll.

DJ
They have a very detailed contrast between low frequencies and the sound isolation is brilliant.
They have an awesome fit to the shoulder and you will only get tired from being with your neck twisted unlike other "cans" where they are seriously uncomfortable or just clumsy.
You don't get any distortion on low frequencies... none! that says it all ...

Overall they are a good buy for 100 Euro but only if you intend to use them on your home amp or as a DJ.

Final comments
If you are not a DJ don't buy them, that's my advise.
You cant walk on the street comfortably and you can't study for long with them.

Emphasis on the oomph!

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Excellent sound, durable, foldable, sound isolating, replaceable cord
Cons: Headband is a little flat, should offer non coiled cable

Songs/Artists used for testing purposes: (320kpbs MP3, WAV, or FLAC used on PC. Various qualities of MP3 on a PMP)

Metallica, Mudvayne, Tool, HeadFi and HDtracks - Open Your Ears (compilation), and others.

My initial impressions (out of box – "Flat" EQ): These were a little hard to drive with 5 year old mp3 player but overall not too bad. They may benefit from a decent portable or desktop amp. They are a lot more honest with recordings than I have heard with other headphones (320kbps sounds much better than 192kbps MP3, while FLAC and WAV sound even better). The bass extends very low although it sounds a bit loose or boomy in some areas. The highs are nicely extended, with crisp and articulate cymbal crashes. These cans are quite comfortable but the oddly flat headband must be extended close to max to create better fit and seal. I have a fairly large head but not overly large (hat size 7 ¾). The round ear cups are large enough to fit around my ears (barely) and offer very decent seal and comfort. I can hear muffled voices while no music is playing and barely anything when the music is playing. Guitars sound impressive and clean and I find myself hearing things I've never heard before. I also found myself being able to distinguish the layers of sounds such as the placement of instruments and distance of other sounds in certain recordings (especially with the "Open your Ears" compilation). The bass guitar sounds loud and clear and presents me with sounds that I don't always hear in some tracks with other 'phones. I am no bass head by any means but it almost felt like I was sitting very close to the bassist of some bands. The singer's voices in all tracks are loud and clear while also sounding close by and not at all crowded by other instruments.

Drums: Kick drum – kicks have sufficient thump and presence.

Toms – a bit laid back in some tracks, very smooth and punchy in others.

Snare – clear/snappy/very good clarity.

Cymbals – articulate, crisp, clean although a bit laid back in some tracks.

Extended impressions (after 6hrs pink noise, 6hrs white noise, 6hrs extended freq sweep, 8+ hrs random music).

They have "warmed up" a bit. The bass is far less boomy or loose sounding in all areas and is still improving. The clarity in the low range is quite surprising as I have read that many closed-back headphones don't excel in this area. Some MP3s at or below 192kbps sound a little better with the EQ set to "Techno" or "Soft" in Winamp. Most MP3s above 192kbps sound better with the EQ set to "Flat" in Winamp. While listening to several Tool songs I did notice that when the EQ was set to anything other than Flat there was some hissing noticeable in some of the quieter parts of the songs. It may be how this particular album was mixed/mastered but it also seemed a little mid heavy (big emphasis on guitars).

(Second run-through with same artists listed above)

High: Continues to impress in clarity and richness with no harshness.

Mid: Mellowed out a bit and plays well with all the other spectrums, not overbearing.

Low: The extension and quality of the lows have been impressing me more and more. This spectrum has shown the most improvement. They are not at all overpowering but accurate and add a certain amount of depth I have yet to match with other headphones (although the want is there, my wallet would hate me).

Fit/comfort: The first several days were interesting. At first these were quite comfortable while on my ears. They got a little hot but that was expected. After, they started to become fairly uncomfortable to wear for more than two or three hours. This was short lived, however, because after owning these for roughly a month I have no problems with the comfort (it could have had something to do with how extended the headband was set). The headband could definitely be improved upon by rounding it out. The only other thing I have noticed is that sometimes they can make a creaking sound when adjusting the ear pieces but it's not much of a deal breaker.

Bottom Line:

Shure's SRH750DJ extend so low it creates a super rich, full sound without emphasizing the bloat or "boominess" that I believe can sometimes plague headphones. The highs sparkle and shimmer with clarity without being too overpowered and harsh. Regrettably, I have never had the chance to hear a $500+ pair of headphones that could blow me out of my seat, but for ~$150 these cans definitely fit the bill and then some.

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: solid bass, comfortable, affordable
Cons: 'phone cord is way too long

I bought these a while ago and they just shipped in from eBay today. I was using my roommates skullcandy's and those are trash. The bass in these is amazing, I love the replaceable cord, they are incredibly comfortable, great at killing other sound. The bass is kind of heavy but they are headphones for a DJ that will crank the bass and blast them day in and day out, if you don't want/need something with response down to 5hz and the ability to drowned out the sound of just about anything you would encounter walking around then find something else :). I love them because as a sound guy I really trust Shure because they have a great track record. I might end up getting an amp just so I can balance out the bass but it isn't really such a huge issue that I feel a great desire to do so at this point.

they do look a little goofy but I don't care, I love everything else about them

as far as durability they come with an extra set of ear pads and a replaceable 'phone cord so they are golden :)
