Why equalizers make sense
Posted by Happyman from San Lorenzo, CA on 2011-08-05Posted on Monster Beats by Dr.Dre Tour
Recommend Product: No
Pros: Monster quality, snazzy looking, a bassheads delight
Cons: Not very good at lower volume
These require a deep seat in the ear to sound their best and the stock tips seat very well but are somewhat shallow. The barrels are pretty big and may not be comfortable for someone with narrow ear canals. The bass is pronounced and overwhelms the mids and the highs are recessed. Much of this can be dialed in or out to the listeners tastes by equalization but for "normal" settings there are better options. Once dialed in these are acceptable and quite enjoyable. The sound stage is very horizontal with little depth or height, and though touted as reference grade you can forget that. I would not recommend them as my first upgrade of earbuds. I find the volume necessary to get the best from these to be unacceptably loud for me and I think for safe listening. The ribbon wire is an interesting feature but makes wearing behind the ear awkward and there seems to be a lack of strain relief at critical points of the assembly. For me, it's all about listening pleasure. I find these fatiguing after awhile.

Big bass, nothing else

Pros: Big bass, good lookng
Cons: Poor mids and highs, poor value for what you get
My friend recently received a pair of these as a gift and I had a listen to two different types of music on them.R&B and alternate rock.
I listened to She's Like The Wind by Vibekingz ft. Maliq. When the beat broke in I thought these earphones were awesome. It had huge bass and booming to the extent that my eardrums were vibrating. Then, unfortunately, the lyrics began to play. And it was utterly RUBBISH! It sounded like he was blowing into the mic while recording the song or it had a bit rate of 40kbps.
I continued to listen and then put on my favorite band, The Script. I got the same disgusting results, and my brain forced me to remove these horrible earphones, before my music experiences were ruined forever.
As for comfort, these are not great either. With the standard tips on(the ones in the pictures) they kept falling out of my ears. Maybe its just my ears, but my Sennheisers won't fall out of my ears during an earthquake so I doubt its my ears.
All though these are the worst earphones I've ever heard, I must say that they look really cool and modern. But at the end of the day I'm the one enjoying them (well at least trying to enjoy them) not the guy next to me on the bus. So I personally don't care how my earphones look.
I can't really comment on the durability as yet. Since there's nothing wrong with them, not yet at least. But looking at previous reviews, they are as fragile as glass.
All round these earphones are a complete waste of money. I have a pair of Sennheiser CX 300 II and I would much rather spend $70 on those than $250 on these. (South African retail prices)

I wear them in campus they make me fly in the air...amazing
So they sound best and look best outdoors, i mean they can be really called Tour Edition...

Pros: slick bass, awesome looks TANGLE FREE
Cons: a little fragile, not for evreyone
to all the audiophiles who 1-stared these buds, you should'nt have. I llisten to lots of Hip hop and dubstep and these are amazing for the 2 gereres. if you're looking for a ballanced sound, look elsewhere. these are very bass heavy, but don't think that you can't hear the highs and mids, cuz you can. also, if you have music in your ipod that is below 256 kb/s, don't get these, because they really bring out the flaws in the flawed music. for me, BEATS TOUR ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

Pros: Very confortable
Cons: Poor value,
I bought them October 13 received them November 05 and now I just open my little case to realise that it's already broken.... I go back to my AKG K324 P that I have for the last 2 years who are not as comfortable and not as pretty but they seem indestructible. I was not impress by the sound.

terrible sound

Pros: bass
Cons: flat sound
These are the most comfortable ear buds I've used, the cord doesn't pick up any noise, but the sound is just terrible. It makes an mp3 track sound like 64kbits/sec! It has the worst sound of any of my headphones but it has by far the best bass of any of my headphones. These buds are very efficient: very loud on my dinky mp3 player. A headphone amp is totally unnecessary. I tried my headphone amp and it doesn't help, neither does any other signal source.
All high freq sounds are dampened and muffled. High-hat's sound terrible. The next head phones I buy will aim to have a low end similar to these, but a high end comparable to ... any thing else would be preferable. My Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's sound way better, as do my Grado SR125's and Etymotics 4S and Bose head phones.
I'm a big hip-hop fan but not even tracks by Dr. Dre sound any good through these.

Style over substance?
Posted by McG from Singapore on 2010-04-13Posted on Monster Beats by Dr.Dre Tour

Pros: Beautiful design and packaging, stylish on the go..
Cons: Good sound but not exceptional
These headphones are not cheap. On the plus-side, the design is very eye catching and you will definitely be noticed when out on the streets with the bright red Monster cable linking up with those branded ear pieces. There is absolutely no doubt that, in terms of street-cred, these beautiful headphones are right at the top of anything available. I also found the Monster cable to be excellent - it really doesn't tangle and it sits with a nice weight using a cable clip to just take the weight off the cables in-ear. The flat red cables definitely cause (other) heads to turn - in this respect they are the ultimate "cool".
On the downside, I just don't agree with Dr. Dre's testimonial on the side of the box: I don't think these headphones let you hear everything the artist produced at all. I think these headphones may be designed with some extra lift on the bass notes to provide the street beats his musical genre would lend itself to. However, for the rest of us, the sound is just not as crisp as many of the alternatives available, around and under the Monstear Beats price. I also own Sennheiser earbuds and I find that these phones have a more beautiful and crystal clear overall sound than the Beats - but here's the rub - I don't wear the Sennheisers when out and about because I love the styling of the Beats.
As for the build quality, unlike my fellow reviewers I have not experienced a single problem with the hardware or the cable components.

Nice while they lasted

Pros: Great sounding base, Good looking, tangle free cord is somewhat effective
Cons: Headphones break very easily, may go to deep in your ear and not fit right.
My biggest problem with all earbuds is the durability. These sound great and if you love bass then this would be a solid choice for you. The headphones go quite deep in your ear canal and there is never a really great fit. I really wanted to love these but the flaws are larger than the pros. right where the wire meets the jack the cable frays exposing a very weak wire. It does the same thing at the point where the cable splits in two. Even part of the bud itself fell apart. I've owned two pairs of these headphones and they constantly fall apart. The costumer service is nice but you should never want to deal with costumer service. For $150 I was expecting better, and for Monster a cable company have problems with there cables is unacceptable. If you are in the market for long lasting good sounding headphone look elsewhere but if you want to stand out from the crowd these are for you.
