Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Comfortable for Hours, Lightweight, Excellant Build Quality
Cons: None
I relied on past experience, a local musician's store and a couple of big box outlets (to find out what I didn't want for the most part) in making a decision. I've owned several high-end headphones in the past, but wanted to go as "all out" as I could and it has been a number of years. These are exactly what I was looking for. I want to listen to every album and CD I own all over again to rediscover them! For what it's worth, I also purchased a hi-end portable player that has a built in DAC, headphone amp with two gain settings. While I was able to listen to these headphones with the unit (on high gain), the experience was very sub-par. After purchasing my new HeadRoom Micro Amp I am now very well pleased. Everything I've played sounds "right" or as good as I have ever heard it and then some. The infinite details in the music I listen to are clear and easy to pick out if you are that kind of listener. On the other hand, if you are looking at these just to improve the quality of your fashion statement they may help that way too!
Part Two: Do not judge these if you have not invested in a good DAC like the Headroom Micro I just got today. Compromise input = compromised output. What a difference!

Fantastic Headphones

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Great sound, comforable, quality
Cons:
Can't beat Head Rooms price, at least $100.00 less than other vendors plus no shipping or sales tax. Bought a pair which were shipped quickly, no issues. These headphones need an amp otherwise you will be running the volume to 11. With a quality amp the sound is super, crystal clear, full and balanced.

Pros: Great Sound, Comfort, Style, removable cable
Cons: Power hungry
First high quality full size headphone I have owned. I have had several cheaper models. These bay far are the best things I've ever heard. I've tested many other models from this brand and other big name competitors. Nothing has sounded as good as these. (Sans much more expensive highly amped headphones). I own a pair on in-ear-monitors and yes they give much bigger bass sound than the Q701s but they do not have the sound stage and clarity full sized cans like these.
The sound is incredible. Sound stage is full, satisfying, wide, and true. The quality is like none I've ever heard. Instruments are separated well and play from their respective positions on stage when listening to live recordings. The detail in the sound makes the music come to life. The highs and mids are true and bright without being so much that you get tired of them. Some say that these headphones have a light bass response and I agree that they will not make your head thump but the bass reaches down as low as you can go. I actually find the bass enjoyable, probably more so than if it were to shake my brain. I guess you could say the bass is true without being overpowering.
These are the most comfortable headphones that I have tried. I hardly notice that these are on my head while listening. There are bumps underneath the head strap that are strange at first but after only a few minutes I forgot they were there. The auto adjusting headband makes the fit perfect every time you put them on without fail. The ear pads are a microfiber cloth that helps keep the sides of your head from getting too hot and sweaty.
As for the looks, 701s are what made me interested in actually purchasing a higher quality headphone. I thought the looks were incredible. The new colors of the Q series are just icing on an incredible cake. The green cable is my only gripe, I can see it getting dirty easily and bothering me but nothing that can't be fixed. I do worry about the durability of them but then again I worry about all my things. Time will really tell of course and if I can I will update this review.
Would I recommend these? Yes! I mean, even my grandmother likes them, so you really can't go too wrong. You will not be disappointed with these phones.
An amp would be a good idea. These phones tend to tap out the volume button on most sources. But they still sounds great.
