So-So headphone but hey I got for free...

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Ok bass and strong sound output...
Cons: Muddy sound overall...

I got mine free with the HP laptop I bought more than a year ago. My first impression about it is that it looks cool and has a sturdy built. I mainly use as my Galaxy S/Note cans and then used it in my work, as I had to listen to dictations all day.

The bass response is good, deep and thumping, but that is also the problem as it drowns the mids and highs resulting in a "muddy" sound overall. I have a Sennheiser HD 449, which sounds better and clearer with better sound stage albeit less bass respionse than what I usually like and the 449's sound output is less than the Solo as I had to turn the volume way higher with the 449. So, I still end up using the Solo than the 449 everyday. To solve the muddy sound, I change the equalizer setting of my phone to "more treble" and to my ears the Solo sound way better this way.

The second problem is that although the build quality of the Solo is actually sturdier than the 449, the rubber padding on of my Solo started peeling off and I now lost it somewhere. I can wear both all day without much problems.

I am still in the process of choosing my new cans, either the Sennheiser HD 518, V-Moda M-100 or the Sony MDR-1R as I heard they all have base thumping profiles but are still crystal clear with their mids and highs.

Pros: Non

Unless you are retarded, enjoy shitty rap or hiphop, want to look cool, don't know anything about headphones, do not buy. These are about as good as apple earbuds. Get real headphones, swagfags.

Great Bass, Great Sound. Cheap Build

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Comfortabe, Strong Bass
Cons: Temporary plasticy feel

Aight got solo hds a while ago. Im talking about the HDs, because for 20 bucks more than the original solos, they sound way more better and fluent. First of all they are comfortable. for me on ears never fit me, and I always wore over ears such as the skullcrushers or ath-m50s. but then, i happened to buy them and I loved them. I still do.

Its been 1 week, bass is strong, love it. but the build feels cheap and plasticy. For a day it squeaked whenever i touched it, but i guess it was because of my harsh care. Or my friends' harsh care, should I say. But then the day after, it became okay, but still feel plasticy. but then again, when I touch it, it somehow feels like metal...

Sounded Okay, But Broke Within 4 Months

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Decent Comfort, Good Bass, Looks Good
Cons: Poor Value, Not Durable, Overpowering Bass, Sound Quality

I sort of liked these headphones when they were working. They were comfortable, but the sound quality was not that good. Too much bass and it overpowers the mids and the highs. Around 4 months later, no sound came out of the headphones. I paid $200 for headphones and they break? Also, these headphones do not sound like $200 headphones. They sound like $50 headphones. Do not buy these........ Buy anything else, from Audio Technica, Sennheiser, AKG, Grado, Shure, Beyerdynamic etc..... I am sending these back to get a replacement pair.

Quality Sound for Ridiculously Bad Construction Quality

Posted by HeadPhoneLover from Calgary, AB on 2010-05-10

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Sounds GREAT (after burn-in time) Looks fantastic, Quality Cord and Accessory
Cons: Painful After Short Use (30-60 minutes) SNAPS IN HALF, horrible sounding out of the box

I didn't really believe in buying a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones because they seemed ridiculous the price for the brand name and endorsement of the music industry.

Sadly I bought these because they were on sale at Futureshop during the Boxing Day Sales for a fair price.

The packaging looks great, makes you feel like you've bought the perfect product, and when you open up the box it only gets better from there, as everything seems to be perfectly made to please you. First Impression was great.

(Thing to mention is that the white pair of Dr. Dre Solo Headphones STAINS VERY EASILY, IT WILL NOT COME OFF)

Burn-In time, the headphones sounded phenomenol, however the fun stops there. The headband is made out of thin and fragile plastic, if you takes these headphones off your head/neck improperly, these will snap with ease. After awhile, these will snap with ease.
In cold weather conditions, these will snap with ease.

The fragile construction of this headphone is ridiculous and I would really not get it again.

However if you do want to get some sexy pair of headphones these are it, they just won't last you more than 4 weeks.

Good but far from the best ....

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Look beautiful, feel comfortable
Cons: Overpowering bass and inadequate mid-range

I bought these because they look fantastic so more fool me if I then found the sound to be a real let down - headphones should be bought on sound first and the aesthetics should follow I know, but they do look great...

Having read some of the reviews on this site, I went back to the iPod and adjusted the EQ settings until I got what I wanted - surprisingly this was by selecting "Pop" - but each song of course needs something different and that isn't what you are meant to do with headphones.

They are a decent quality of sound, the build seems absolutely fine - I haven't had any reason to be concerned about cracking or splitting on any component - the cable and talk switch are great and eye-catching - but for the money I paid I have secured a fashion premium at the cost of some sound quality. I am going to select "yes" in the recommendation but only because they look great and feel great - you can definitely buy better sounding headphones at this price....

Good on-the-go phones, great for dance and some rock music

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, really light, stylish (white ones)
Cons: Really bass heavy, pricey, not for critical listening

Just got 'em and breaking them in. Like other reviews say, very bass heavy (via PC and iPod usage) - took a little tweaking to lighten up the bass using Window's Media Player and had to take the TruBass down to "25" - and I really like bass. If you like to incessantly adjust the bass levels for each song and maybe several times throughout each song - then you'll have a blast with these. If you have equipment that auto-adjusts to each song (levels the output the same), then you wouldn't mind this.

With headphone amp: Dared MP5 (aka FatMan tube amp) - hot rodded by Parts Connexion. Fantastic bass extension (go figure) - not much added in the way of treble & issues with mids. Not for classical, acoustic music, haven't decided on whether or not I like live music with them (the tube amp only goes so far with these).

Don't need the noise cancelling since even at low volumes, the bass drowns out all sound. Will have to use in moderation since these will fatigue your ears! Included cord is too short too.

Glad I didn't pay $300 for the Studio version - Dr. Dre's got enough $$$ in the bank - ha! Got these on a whim from BestBuy and if I didn't have $150 in gift certs already, I wouldn't recommend laying down close to $200 for them. I say I recommend, just not at this price. Maybe if you were a kid that didn't know the difference between higher rez stuff and only use an iPod - then this is for you (or your rich parents to buy you)...

Hope it helps!

Solo's don't live up to their price tag

Posted by acid on 2010-02-16

Recommend Product: No
Pros: Great design, great fit, nice look
Cons: muddy bass - drowns out mids n highs

I was given a chance to try these for a couple of days from a friend. I was somewhat hesitant because of the reports of them snapping constantly. But temptation took over.

Anyways, the sound quality - I think because I've experienced the Studios, my expectations were set a tad bit too high than the Solo's could reach. The sound was not very well balanced, and there was almost no soundstage with these 'phones. The highs were good, but only if the bass was not drowning them out. Mids were almost not even present. Although a little bit of messing around with some EQ settings, an amp, and these can sound decent. But still somewhat muddy. Rock songs seemed to shine the most on these cans, linkin park, coldplay, hinder etc.

Definitely not suited for Classical at all. But throw some rap on, even some country, and these do pretty well with it. (keeping in mind that the EQ is set properly and they have a decent source).

Their build quality is not that great, I can tell why these things have been snapping constantly - not something you'd expect from $200 headphones.
But they look great, they are very portable, and comfort level is high. Great if you commute and you need isolation.

They get a 3/5 if your on proper EQ settings with some sort of amp or a good source.

Pretty Good

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Stylish, powerful bass, great with an iPod, good isolation
Cons: A little pricey, very bassy, lacks some highs/mids

I was little wary of on ear headphones but I wanted some decent sounding, good looking and light/compact phones to wear out. I'm writing this review the day after the purchase...

Sound Quality: If your ears were small towns the bass in these would rape and pillage everything inside them, which isn't necessarily a good thing...The phones are NOT for Classical music, obviously, but I'll say it anyway. The mids and highs are little lacking but the bass is all there, maybe a little overpowering at times.

Comfort: The headphones are pretty dang light and the padding is silky and smooth, for now at least.

Look/Feel: Real nice looking headphones, not overly-showy but still stylish. The phones are light but still feel high in quality.

Durability: Each part of the headphones looks and feels pretty durable BUT I've read that some people had durability issues, so I'll be careful with them.

Overall I'm pretty happy with them, only about 20hours of burn in so hopefully the highs will show up a little more later. Also I really like the in-line controls for the ipod . They sound great with an ipod, in fact, putting my ipods eq on treble booster makes these sound quite good. So if you have an ipod that works with the call-talk control feature it's a good bonus.
