Truly, A Top Earbud!

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Dynamic, Great Soundstage, Warm, Just Enough Detail, Supremely Balanced
Cons: Design Is Ordinary, No Clip To Secure Cable To Clothing

First things first. Why do most people complain about the bass not being boomy or ultra low in these buds? I don't think Yuin had that in mind when designing them (or the PK1's). And besides, it's about balance. The bass, mid-range, and treble all work well together with no one frequency jumping out of line to make itself known. With these buds, the bass is meant to be LISTENED to, not felt or vibrating your eardrums. There are other brands on the market that can bang your skull with deep bass but it's not natural in most cases. The bass IS there in the PK2's - tight, controlled, and very musical, just like the midrange. Throw in a warm and detailed treble (with no etch or shrillness ) and you have, in my opinion, the world's greatest earbud for under $100.00. True musicality with just enough audiophile qualities to please even some of the most discriminating "sound lovers". End of story.

They do sound wonderful plugged directly into a portable unit but the quality of the sound goes up a notch or two when plugged directly into a headphone amp. Or, if you're like me who also uses the PK2's in a computer-based system, a headphone amp/DAC can really bring out the quality of the sound. And it's not always a subtle difference.

Overall, if I have to describe the sound of these uber-buds, I would say they have a tube-like sound that musical and warm but not lushy, romanticized, or sugary. Having said that, I have not heard the PK1's and that may be a purchase for me in the near future but if you don't want to spend a lot of money and want something that will definitely sound better than your included-in-the-package earbuds, the PK2's are a clear choice.
