Grado SR 125
These cans are perhaps just a bit pricey, so if you're looking for a truly impressive Grado-flavored headphone for your collection, may we suggest you save up for the SR225. The SR125s produce a typically bright-leaning Grado tonal signature, slightly forward-sounding in the mids/highs with pretty good overall musical detail resolution but only moderately deep bass performance/punch and a small but still audible "hardness" in the mid-ranges -- at least to our ears. The earpads/headband fit also tends to be somewhat uncomfortable for some listeners, but this can be slightly remedied by gently bending the headband to better fit the top of the wearer's head and/or by buying set of the slightly softer-foam Grado Labs 'Soft' earpads ($10usd).
The SR125 are well-constructed -- as with all Grado Labs products -- and utilize speaker drivers perfectly matched to .1db with voice coils made of Grado's ultra-high purity, long-crystal, oxygen-free copper. The SR125 have the traditional basic flexible leather Grado headband style and use simple old-school metal height adjusters to connect the earcups to the headband, thus allowing for up-and-down fit adjustments plus full 360-degree earcup rotation. This feature is ideal for laying the headphones down flat for storage or transit. The 7.5ft straight-cord headphone cable attaches to both earpieces, and comes terminated to a full-size 1/4" inch plug — if you need to plug into a smaller 1/8" [3.5mm] mini-jack on your audio source, you'll need the high-quality Grado Labs 1/4"-to-1/8" mini-plug adapter flex-cable which is available under our 'Cables & Adaptors' HeadRoom listings.
