Earpad headphones, more correctly called supra-aural ("on the ear") headphones, have fairly flat, small-to-mid-sized earpads that tend to rest against the outer part of the earlobes. This design provides a very comfortable, lightweight fit. Earpad headphones are available in both open and closed earcup constructions. The earpieces of earpad headphones come in a variety of sizes but basically fall into two general shapes: 'larger' in which the usually foam-material padded earpieces rest against the entire outside part of the ear [pinna]; and 'smaller' in which the earpieces are small enough to somewhat nestle into the folds and ridges of the earlobes. There are many, many of this type of headphone in all manner of construction designs, ergonomics, price, and audio fidelity.
