Though slightly lean in the low bass response, the AKG k271S is a very refined and smooth-sounding headphone with superbly detailed, transparent extension in the upper midranges & highs. Certainly a superior sealed-earcup headphone for acoustic jazz recordings and for guitar-based folk or kicked-back jam-band music. Chorale, string quartet, and symphonic chamber music come through clear and ultra-articulate, plus the ambient noise in the listening environment is nicely reduced by the sealed-back closed-earcup design. The K-271S's defined, tightly-controlled bass response is probably not authoritative or hefty enough for most hip-hop, funk, or techno/electronica fans, but might do OK if big heavy bass is not your thing. Despite their larger sizing, these are still fairly lightweight headphones with an ergonomically balanced, comfortable fit for the vast majority of wearers. Highly efficient 55-ohm impedance rating makes the K-271 dandy for mobile listening applications sans headphone amp -- although there's no question any quality head-amp will fully maximize the sound quality potential and dynamic musical clarity of this full-size headphone.

These venerable cans live up to the long-standing tradition of durable and comfortable headphones from Austria's AKG Acoustics. Along with the signature 2-point suspension 'auto-fit' system of the headband design, these cans feature a 9-ft 99.99% OFC headphone cable exiting the left earcup terminated to a gold-plated 1/8" (3.5mm) mini-plug. The cord is fully detachable and can be easily owner-replaced if needed. They also have a unique automatic on/off switch built into the headband assembly that activates whenever you take the K271-S on or off your head. The packaging comes with a full-size 1/4"-inch plug adapter included. The strong AKG 2-year product warranty remains standard with all their headphones.
