Jays d-JAYS Black
Upstart Swedish manufacturer Jays has recently introduced their new line of ear-canal headphones. The sonic signature has a clean, punchy bottom-end and a well-extended albeit slightly forward treble range response. For the fussy listener, we could say the mid-range might have used better detail presence but at this nice price who wants to get all fussy? Overall, the D-Jays have impressed the geeky HeadRoom crew by providing great sound quality, personalized fit options, and good noise-blocking all at a consumer-friendly price.
The D-Jays use a mid-profile, unique-looking micro armature construction technology based on a classic Harry Egerton design patent from 1918. They come available in black and white color schemes and are outfitted with 4 differently-sized silicon rubber eartip sleeves (Extra Small/ Small/ Medium/ Large) which manage a pretty solid degree of ambient noise-blocking. As always, the tighter the fit the better the ambient noise seal and the better the bass response will be. The D-Jays efficient 40 ohms impedance assures good performance from virtually any audio source with no dedicated headphone amp required. The D-Jays accessories kit is nicely furnished and contains the aforementioned eartip sleeves, 2 detachable / joinable mini-cables (which together allow for about a 4.5 foot cable length), 4 replacement earpiece filters, and an adjustable 'Y-cord' slider. The cord can be worn either looping behind the ear or straight down as preferred and is terminated to a 1/8" [3.5mm] gold-plated stereo mini-plug.
We have encountered that the D-Jays require significantly more on-board filter replacement compared to other earphone brands. We highly recommend purchasing an additional set of filters with any Jays earphone. Extra eartip sleeves and additional detachable cables are also sold separately. A friendly 2-year product warranty is provided by Jays.
