Our Max Amp and Max Balanced Amp come standard with a stepped attenuator which sounds absolutely terrific, but some audiophiles want finer control of the volume than the discrete 24-position intervals of the stepped attenuator.
Though it’s definitely a mightily expensive volume potentiometer upgrade and not for the faint of heart or wallet, the ultra high-end ultra-cherry Swedish-made Alps RK-50 transparently steps in to provide silky smooth, continuously-variable (adjustable) volume. This crazy-outrageously expensive 50 kOhm audio taper pot is a superb upgrade from a stepped attenuator, as well it should be at this price; these are simply the very best volume controls that cash money can possibly buy. In fact, the Alps folks tell us we are the ONLY manufacturer to ever buy & use the quad-pot version available as a HeadRoom Max Balanced Amp potentiometer upgrade... There's some bragging rights for ya'!
