NEW! With the Beyerdynamic T 70p model, Beyer's unique Tesla technology now steps into the world of premium mobile-oriented headphones. True metal audio transducers with powerful neodymium annular magnets ensure maximum performance and high fidelity. The closed-back earcup design nicely exterminates loud ambient noises. Even at very low volumes, fine musical details are clearly heard with a controlled, analytical and balanced tonality ranging from ultra-deep bass to crystal-clear highs. 32 Ohm impedance.

Applications:

The Beyerdynamic T70p is the 'portable' 32 Ohm version of the 250 Ohm T70 model and has some pretty big headphone shoes to fill. Coming hot on the heels of one of the longest-lived sealed audiophile headphone lines ever created (the famed, now-discontinued DT770 series was offered in 32 Ohm, 250 Ohm, and 600 Ohm versions), the Beyer T70p design offers attractive updates on the classic DT770 - 32 Ohm sound while improving on the overall construction and durability of those classic German-made closed-back cans. The world-beating wearing comfort legendary with the DT770 remains thankfully intact in the T70p as does the soft velour cushion padding and non-clamping, highly ergonomic fit; no question in the realm of full-size circumaural headphones, the Beyer folks are doing something right with the near-perfect comfort of these large cans. Sonically, the T70p audio improvements seem more modest and sticks quite close to the original DT770 - 32 Ohm presentation, which may be a very good thing for listeners seeking that extra-clean Teutonic sense of musical balance and even-toned instrumental/vocal textures for which Beyerdynamic is famous. Bass reproduction is nicely round but also tightly controlled in the extreme low-end, so the T70 is not a bass-hogging headphone although we do hear a tad more presence and warmth in the lower mids when compared to the original DT770 bass response. Acoustically, we feel the strengths of this headphone make it a great candidate for orchestral and jazz recordings and folks intent upon maximum resolution of low-level, nearly obscured mids/highs musical detail -- which the newly-developed T70p 'Tesla' voice coils resolve to the front of the mix in almost revelatory ways. The 32 Ohm impedance technically makes the T70p suitable for un-amped use direct from iPod or laptop computers, but after in-house testing here at HeadRoom our conclusion is that the rather oversize Tesla driver mass still benefits greatly from dedicated amplification, adding more audible control, simplicity and overall musical linearity to the sound.

The Beyerdynamic T70p headphone has grey/silver-colored rounded earcups padded with a durable velour material and provides a loose comfortable fit around the ears; it's easy to wear and light-feeling for a large full-size sealed headphone. The headband design minimizes undue clamping force and is also covered by a cushy padding that is pleasantly soft. The headband mechanism is designed with durable metal alloy supports into the earcups, and a (non-detachable) straight cable exits from the left side. The 9-foot long cord is terminated to a threaded 1/8" (3.5mm) 'mini' plug; a full-size 1/4" inch gold-plated adapter plug is included. As a plus, a leather soft-sided, foam-padded storage/travel bag is provided with all T70 models. The free 2-year manufacturer's product warranty remains standard with Beyerdynamic headphones when proof-purchased from true 'Beyerdynamic-authorized' vendors -- like HeadRoom!

T70p Hands on - First Impression

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Build Quality, Comfort, Sound Quality
Cons: None at this time

Received the T70p cans just in time for Thanksgiving (thanks to HeadRooms free overnight deal)

First Impressions: The phones have a nice weight and upon first touch exude a high quality feel. The metal braces are beautifully machined and the plastic parts dont have the "plastic" feel to them due to being painted. The head band and ear pads are padded with a very rich feeling velour. No pressure points or discomfort, these should serve well for extended use. The cord is not the longest, but is a larger gauge and has a convenient 90 deg plug.

For the first few songs I was under whelmed by the low end response. It was there but, I was left wanting just a bit more. I have read that these can take anywhere from 100-120hours to break in and after 3 solid days of constant playing on an Ipod they are now beginning to loosen up. Mids are coming in line with the bright highs and the lower end is revealing notes that were not present in the initial few hours, so final judgement is best left for after some serious break in mileage. Stereo separation is great with no perceived "leaks" from right to left channels.

These are closed back so sound leakage is minimal to the outside world when in use. For noise penetration, you cannot hear any external noises with music on. With it off you can still hear a finger snap at arms length.

If I had to chose 1 thing that could be improved it would be the retention system of the phones to the head strap. Its not loose, but the positions dont "click" as nicely as one might expect for this price level and having a "Made in Germany" label. Also the carrying case is a protective foam block with a leather casing around it, which is great but very large and would not be something to stick in a back pack. A more compact hard shell would be ideal
