Applications:
The Sennheiser HD800 may well be the world's best headphone (see our HeadRoom Sennheiser HD800 product page for basic information), but it can sound even better when driven by dedicated balanced headphone amplifiers. Audio improvements are across the board in instrumental articulation, musical clarity, punchy impact, and liquid ease of response. At our frequent HeadRoom headphone audio events, listeners of the HD800 in both configurations will typically report the standard 'unbalanced' version sounds less vivacious and lush in blind comparisons. Its clear to say that balanced drive delivers an audible and significant musical performance improvement for serious music lovers using Sennheiser HD800 headphones.
Most "stock" headphone cables simply aren't worth modifying for reference balanced operation. Fortunately, Sennheiser has provided a very worthy cable with the HD800 so just re-terminating their stock cord for balanced use is an excellent way to make these cans compatible with balanced-drive amps. At HeadRoom, the HD800 cable is modified with the addition of two stereo (left/right) Neutrik male 3-pin XLR connections ideal with our HeadRoom Balanced Ultra Desktop Amp.
The Sennheiser HD800 headphone cord is a specially tuned, symmetrical, impedance-matching cable with an extremely low measured capacitance. Braid design is a Sennheiser-proprietary shielded four-conductor within two shielded twisted pairs housed in a unique dialectric insulation featuring thick Teflon-coated, silver plated, oxygen-free pure copper conductors. With our painstakingly precise HeadRoom XLR balanced cord plug modification, your beloved HD800s will be ready to seriously rock your headphone world in a wonderfully balanced way -- so hold on to your music-loving audiophile head!
