Applications:
Taking over for the much-ballyhooed and very successful Image ONE headphones (now discontinued), Klipsch ups the audio ante with the Reference ONE headphones geared for audio mavens on the move with iPod and iPhone. Improved clarity at all frequencies joins with a beefier bass response than was heard in the Image with a fuller, richer tone designed to bolster the low-end of your digital mobile music. The highs are definitely present and quite extended but can sound almost a bit bright at times -- especially at high volumes -- depending on the caliber of recording and quality of your music files. Mid-ranges are smoothly rendered and perhaps somewhat recessed behind the highs which fortunately doesn't really interfere with clear voice/speech intelligibility during your hands-free smartphone chats. The Klipsch Reference ONE built-in 3-button housing is large, well-designed and much more solid-feeling than most on-cord controls we've seen, a nice plus for both ease of use and microphone button control durability. Despite the Reference ONE not being an 'active' [battery powered] noise-canceling headphone design, the on-ear sealed-back earcups provide a surprising amount of isolation, enough to make these a recommended HeadRoom choice for commuting, dorm and office with superb listening privacy. Given the shockingly steep price tag of many 'audiophile' headphones, the Klipsch Reference ONE offers high-end portable performance and true musical engagement at much more reasonable investment.
The Klipsch Reference ONE headphone comes in a fantastically upscale black look with cool copper-colored ringlets tracing the earcups. The earcups feature a textured outer surface that reminds of alligator nubuck or high-end naugahyde, a cosmetic touch that nicely classes up the cans. Real leather headband provides multiple fit options and a comfortable long-term wearing experience. The Klipsch Reference ONE cord measures roughly 4.5ft and is a thickly braided, obviously tough-built construction but yet pliable and very lightweight given that it houses the mic plus 3-button remote at the yoke. The oversize, plainly marked button controls make it easier to operate than almost any other iPhone or iPad headset we've seen and the beefy engineering gives us confidence for the long haul, something we can't always claim with other portable smartphone-oriented headsets. Earcups fold flat for storage and transit into the provided hard-sided Klipsch carry case. The free Klipsch 2-year premium manufacturer's repair-or-replace warranty remains intact ONLY with your HeadRoom 'authorized Klipsch headphone dealer' purchase receipt!
