The iMetal iP-HS5 headset will have you communicating clearly and intelligibly in both directions since the earphones seal within your ear canal -- just like earplugs -- delivering near-total isolation from outside ambient noise. The iP-HS5 have a well-engineered microphone featuring an off-axis noise rejection pattern for clear speech recognition. Good overall tonal definition also makes them choice for personal listening to your iPod or MP3 music. Maximo engineers have recently wisely updated and strengthened the cable on these over the initial models, making the iP-HS5 cord less tangle-prone and more durable for the long haul. The Maximo iMetal iP-HS5 is a great headset candidate to replace the poor sound and telephony features of 'stock' PDA or smartphone microphone / in-ear set-ups.
A nicely designed, solidly engineered and cosmetically well-finished product, the iMetal iP-HS5 has knit-fabric cables, an in-line (1-button) microphone switch plus a sliding cord keep to hold the headphones securely in place with the cable snug around the back of the head. Included are a superb selection of proprietary Maximo eartips for best fit and sound quality along with a hard-sided clamshell travel box for safekeeping the buds on your treks. A tidy -- and hard-to-find -- older cellphone 2.5mm plug adapter is also included, finishing off the excellent iP-HS5 accessories kit.
And please don't forget the truly excellent 2-year manufacturers' warranty is standard on all Maximo products purchased at HeadRoom since we're a fully authorized iMetal dealer. Pros: iphone mic (pause, skip and phone)
Cons: cable microphonics and reliability
Not as bad as headphones that stop working, but the cable microphonics are awful. While standing around on the subway it was acceptable but walking sucked. I was going to use them for jogging but forget about it - all you'd hear is shhh...sshhhushhsu...shushhuhs of the cables rubbing against your clothes. So many manufacturers have figured out this problem and at lower price points so finding a cable this badly designed is really frustrating.
When they DID work, and when I wasn't moving, the sound quality was actually quite good for the price. The treble is rolled off but that's a much better decision than piercing needles of sound.
