The German headphone giant makes its powerful presence felt in the highly competitive 'under $50' in-ear category with the Sennheiser CX300-II Precision earphones. The CX300-II fit style could almost be considered a hybrid design somewhere between a shallow-fit earbud and the deeper insertion characteristics of a true in-ear monitor [IEM]. The CX300-II sound quality is certainly better than most earbuds but probably not quite up to par with significantly more costly in-ear headphones over $79, but their overall sound quality performance remains quite close at a friendlier price. The isolation factor certainly won't match that of an IEM either, but the CX300-II still provides decent external noise-blocking equal to many non-'noise-cancelling' sealed on-ear headphones. The mild isolation level is ideal for listeners intent on remaining aware of their surroundings.

The Sennheiser CX300-II Precision's mids & highs are clear-sounding, but not brightly extended in the uppermost highs which is smoothly rolled-off. The bass presence seems to be significantly affected by the user's choice of eartip and, of course, the overall tightness of the earpiece's fit within the ear canal; given the right tip fit, expect a punchy full-sounding bottom-end response. The CX300-II occupies a unique niche between earbud and in-ear headphones and is a very nice initial step especially well-suited for in-ear earphone newcomers wanting better headphones than the stock buds found with your portable player device.

The Sennheiser CX300-II Precision earphones come with black silicon eartip sleeves sized small/medium/large. Try them all and select for the best sound quality and most comfortable fit. The inconspicuous matte-black color scheme of the CX300 earpieces and cabling resists showing dirt and looks pretty slick to boot. Highly efficient operation and a low 16-ohm impedance rating ensures plenty of output from any mobile audio source like iPods, iPads, Kindle readers, MP3 / DVD players, laptops, and portable gamers. The asymmetrical "J" cable style minimizes cord slack on the move when hooked up to a portable device on your belt or armstrap. The 40" cable is terminated to a mini-plug 1/8" (3.5mm) termination. A strong 2-year product warranty remains standard on all Sennheiser products.

Great sound but faulty design
Posted by MoshPitVeteran from Vancouver, BC on 2011-09-03

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Focused clear audio, comfy, good noise cancelling
Cons: Faulty wire system

I have been through over a dozen pairs of headphones. ipod, sony, jvc, skullcandy. And these are the best sounding, most reliable headphones that ive bought. However the wiresystem is flawed in that there is no anchoring system in place to prevent pulling and/or breakage. The sound is great though. The bass very good, but focused so the midrange, treble and vocals
are still audible. Most earphones like these made by the above companies only last (on average) about 3-4 months. The pair of sennheiser's i have worked for just over a year before the left earphone stopped working a few days ago. they're built well but the wires always get pulled over time which eventually cuts the audio in one of the speakers. I would like to see some sort of tie-in system that securely anchors the wire into the earphones and the plug. Maybe with thicker wires? Also the earphone-only model was recently discontinued in favor of a pair with an attached ipod microphone, which isn't practical or necessary if use them for an ipod. If you do buy these earphones, i suggest an extended warranty if possible. Otherwise you can return them every 30 days to gaurantee your headphones will always work, which might not be a bad idea.

Okay sound for the price. You could do better, however.

Pros: Good bass sound
Cons: Bad electrical insulation, poor construction.

I found these headphones to be pretty decent on the whole as far as overall sound quality without the need to crank up the volume too high. The isolation and bass were very good for the price in my opinion. On the other hand, vocal treble tones sometimes have a slightly washed out feel to them, Also, I've always found earbuds to be uncomfortable, and these are no exception. The assymetrical design means that one of the two buds will constantly fall out of your ear.

The main problem with these earbuds is that (like most earbuds) they really aren't very well constructed. The wire is far too thin (poorly insulated), and hence has a tendecy to pull and damage easily. It got to the point where I couldn't listen to these headphones while folding laundry, because the wires were so poorly insulated that the static electricity actually traveled through the wire to my ear. Ouch!

Nice in-ear earphones, but not great.

Recommend Product: Yes
Pros: Comfortable, powerful sound and deep basses
Cons: Too many basses for a standard user, sound does not convince totally

Very comfortable earphones, with asymmetrical wires.
They can reproduce a really LOUD sound, with powerful bass tones, but personally I find them not balanced for me.
I think they would be great for people who like to listen to their music at high volumes.
Again, they are not great, but still nice, and they worth their price.
