Applications:
The Sennheiser HD205-II headphone gets it sealed headphone DNA from the 'economy-line' HD201 and budget HD203 models but significantly beefs up the bass response and adds more vivid, transparent highs to the musical presentation. The midranges still remain slightly recessed in the overall mix, giving the HD205-II a mild accentuation in the lows & highs typical for headphones at this general pricepoint. The upper-most treble range extension remains reasonably well-controlled, so the HD205-II manages to avoid the deadly tonal sin of 'edge' or harshness, a big no-no when using portable/digital audio sources that may already tend towards a brittle sound in the high frequencies. The Sennheiser HD205-II is a recommended choice for the budget-concious portable listener or working DJ wanting good ambient noise isolation and solid bottom-end punch in a fairly priced, well-built, and rather cool-looking headphone.
The Sennheiser HD205-II rates an efficient 32 Ohm impedance and 112dB sensitivity specs, making it suitable for use with computers, DJ turntable decks, even iPod, iPad or MP3 players and portable CD/DVD devices without demanding a dedicated headphone amp. Of course, an amp maximizes the sound quality of the HD 205-II and makes a noticeable improvement on the overall clarity, dynamics, and musical detail resolution -- but it's certainly not required. The construction of these headphones is solid with a sliding headband for fit adjustments and a chrome/silver/black colorway that's pretty schweet. The HD 205-II mid-sized pleather-padded earcups swivel away for single-ear listening or "mono" DJ mixing applications. The clamping force of the headband does feel secure as needed for mobile listening or active club work, but it may perhaps be a bit tight for big noggins who just want to lounge on the couch and do some personal listening. [HeadRoom Tip: letting the headphones stretch while clamped on a basketball or over a stack of books for a few days helps alleviate that issue]. The HD205-II headphone cord exits from the left earcup and terminates to 1/8" [3.5mm] 'mini' plug. A full-size 1/4" adapter plug is included in the package along with a nifty padded storage pouch to protect your headphones during transit. A 2-year product warranty is standard with all Sennheiser headphones ONLY when proof-purchased from 'Sennheiser-authorized' dealers -- like us here at HeadRoom since 1992!
